I had a vanishing point and it was pretty nifty for what it did. Was handy for writing rapid patient notes on ward rounds as a junior doctor. Not doing that anymore and I always found them ugly. I've also got a Lamy Dialog 3 - clever mechanism but it gummed up with ink and had to be replaced.

Safari and Al-Star have the same nib and feed - just different body. The nibs are going to be pretty variable out of the factory but can write ok with some work.
You've not done anything wrong and not all fountain pens are like this! I recommend Pilot Metropolitan at a similar price.

TLOU1 is a good time but ultimately is pretty straightforward. TLOU2 was visceral and gave an experience that I don't think any other media can give.

Omg, I forgot to quicksave, did a massive fight, barely scraped through but I survived, then accidentally broke my oath straight after. Reloaded and redid the whole fight. Bg3 feels.
