A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?

All right everybody, time to read (or reread) The 18th Brumaire of Louis Napoleon. Ground rules: we are not reading for the history of 1848-1852 France, but we're also not looking for direct parallels to the contemporary US. We are looking for broad lessons on politics and just generally good lines.

Hear, hear!
Cohen was such an important part of my early reading and listening on China. A thoroughly decent and honest man who did not speak about human rights self-righteously, but from the heart. I had no idea he was 95, I must say. He was always so lucid.
RIP, Jerome Cohen
Such sad news to hear of Jerome Cohen’s death. No foreigner knew the law in #China like he did. Apart from having a brilliant intellect, and an adventurous spirit - which led him to practice law inside China then go on to defend dissidents here etc - he was a funny, giving person who will be missed.
