No way. Phone calls sound terrible, I hate having to say "what?" and "can you repeat that?" fifty times.

Decent microphones over a high bandwidth protocol is such a vastly better experience.

Fourth answer: an op-ed titled "The moral failure of our time that I was always totally against" which blatantly misrepresents their past positions.

Isn't that the thing Doctor Who flies around in?

I'd like to think people aren't swayed by Advance's attack ads, but it was pretty relentless. I got several of them in the mail, and there were a few up outside the polling place.

I can hope - I was surprised by the result we got, but I think it's more likely Labor will refuse to do any real reform, and people will elect the Liberals in frustration just because they're "the other guys"
May 7, 2025 at 11:57 PM
I'm concerned that Labor will take the loss of the greens as a mandate to avoid any reform even remotely progressive. I'm even more concerned that they might be right to do so (since apparently it costs votes.)

The integrity of our electoral system and the strength of our institutions has protected us from the worst, but this cannot continue without consequences. We need real reform. Wealth inequality will be the end of our country if we do not stop it.

As people get desperate, they'll look for anything to blame. But you can only find the real culprits when you have the time and resources to do so. If you're choosing between medicine and meals, you're not exactly watching senate estimates in your spare time. So scapegoats fill that void.

Look, I'm glad the Liberals got absolutely demolished, but it seems almost inevitable that Labor will keep the status quo. The billionaire class will have more assets and more power than ever. People's lives will get materially worse over time. Labor's incrementalism will be the end of us.

Why is it always the party of racist elites who wins the votes of disaffected voters? Voting for the party that's been in power for the majority of this century hardly seems anti-establishment or wanting to break things.
April 14, 2025 at 3:41 AM
Yeah, this is what breaks my brain about progressives saying stuff like this. In Australia we have preferential voting and a minor party who wants to break the status quo and tax the rich. Yet all I see is people saying they're too radical, idealist, obstructionist, unserious.

This in particular drives me absolutely insane. Why don't people care??? Is fucking MAFS more important to you than the future of the planet? The future of society?

Even people who acknowledge that we're getting fucked by billionaires still vote for the duopoly. I just can't deal with it sometimes.

I don't think I've ever heard of an actual AI Expert (as in, someone who has studied machine learning algorithms etc.) say that AGI is coming. Sam Altman is not an "AI Expert".

Great episode!

Who do you want to play you when we get an AI equivalent of "The Big Short"?

I'm inclined to agree, and I don't think I'm the only one. About as likely as building nuclear reactors.

These guys aren't nerds, that's giving them too much credit. It's just cosplay, an affectation. They only care about looking or sounding smart to stupid people.
