Starting to notice people I know say stuff they never would have five years ago. Is this what happens to people who "don't care about politics"? They just follow whatever is trendy?

Nothing crazy yet, but definitely shifting to the right.

The real answer to why we can't have nice things.
Newsletter: We are in the era of the Business Idiot, where middle management has seized power, breeding out true meritocracy and value-creation in favor of symbolic growth and superficial intelligence. This piece ties together everything I've ever written.

The Era Of The Business Idiot
Fair warning: this is the longest thing I've written on this newsletter. I do apologize. Soundtrack: EL-P - $4 Vic Listen to my podcast Better Offline. We have merch. Last week, Bloomberg profiled ...

Liberals are ahead of the curve. They've been seeing the rise of independents and have decided to become a minor party.

Isn't it insane though that the Nats still have a strong vote? They're willing to sabotage themselves to continue the climate wars.

Why do farmers and regional Australia still support these crazies? Climate change hurts them more than most.

The Greens losing in the lower house is sad. It means the duopoly still holds its grip on the body politic.

The criticisms just seem made up to me. "Blocked the HAFF"? Yeah, to build more houses instead of parking billions of dollars in an investment fund. It was literally a Utopia-style policy.

Why does it feel like being a progressive is frowned upon in Australia? Did I miss the memo or something?

Looks like we might be getting some new source material for Call of Duty pretty soon.

It does bug me that we're not making waves to get all the public scientists and researchers who are leaving the US.

Who needs innovation and productivity when you can dig rocks out of the ground and give them away for free?

We're a nation in decline and it's saddening.

Why are so many rich people always so intent on destroying the economy? I swear it's more important to a lot of them that other people have no money than it is for them to have a lot of it.

The comments on this thread make me legitimately mad. Even the top comment blames poor people for "not valuing education" (i.e. can't afford private school)

How do people follow so many people, like in the thousands? I use the Following tab and even a hundred following seems like it would be overwhelming.

At least culturally, I still wonder how this happened. I used to spend a lot of time on Hacker News, it was a pretty good resource. These days though the Tech Bros are abundant as they are insufferable.
clearly the big lesson from the last election was that people were too mean to giant amoral technology corporations

On Media Watch, they highlighted a story talking about the death of a teenager who was cyber bullied. Maybe it's whataboutism, but why is that a tragedy, but when a trans youth dies it's a barely acknowledged statistic.

Friends I made online helped me get a job. The social media ban is still dumb.

This is one of those things that I know to be true, but still can't fathom. Understanding just how far my views are away from the general public makes me feel like an extremist. Life of a progressive I guess?
there are massive, huge, glaring issues with the social media ban for kids but I think people who are Online maybe don't really understand how much normie parents support and want this

I've been trying to save for a house deposit, but I'm deeply worried that Dutton's super for housing policy is going to turbocharge the housing crisis.

It feels like there's no winning as a progressive in Australia. If nothing changes, Labor is headed for a wipeout.

The "host your own data" aspect of BlueSky is kind of cool. I wonder if it's worth setting up. It doesn't seem *too* hard, the only aspect I'm concerned about is that the developer docs say it's (at least for now) a one-way street.
