Tall and broad and vicious and ugly
The beast towards Bethlehem goes slouching
And when it passes
Each one it passes goes "aaaaaugh!"

a) Many artists manage to transform their personal suffering into something else when they make art

b) Suffering is not required to make art, and many artists who suffered greatly would have made more art if they had suffered less

there is nothing contradictory, here

Thinkin' of that Teller quote, "Sometimes magic is just someone spending more time on something than anyone else might reasonably expect"

Some part of "years of practice," I think, is just the slow, constant re-realization that the work will improve even more when given even more time and attention

Did some darning; this sweater has had a couple small holes for ages. There is satisfaction in fixing things after I ought to have but still long before they are catastrophic.

This is essentially @tshahan.bsky.social’s actual opinion
"anarcho-communist? oh, no, you misheard me.
I'm an arachno-communist. I believe we shouldn't have private property, and also the only legitimate form of government is THE SPIDER"

My migraines are relatively tame; but I do remember the first time I saw a diagram like the "Migraine is Cyclical" one in this article. It was a revelation! The headache is just the tentpole of the event.

Migraine is more than a headache — a radical rethink offers hope to one billion people
Drugs that can prevent or relieve migraine attacks are only effective for some people. Research is starting to untangle the reasons why.

If this judgement holds, the "Theft" section of my "AI in 2024" essay is wrong; I've added a note. It wasn't (and isn't) legal advice and I wasn't a lawyer, nor have I become one.

I do mostly agree with the below thread on the upsides and downsides of Bibas' analysis.
Major AI/fair use decision out of D. Del today. It is not good news for AI proponents for many reasons, including:
1: The judge reversed his own prior ruling that was more AI-favorable.
2: This is one of the three cases I thought most strongly favored AI
