Isn't it great? I think a few keepers were already calling them that, whether they had come up with it or heard it from different zoos around the world, who knows? But here, they decided that the people who need to talk about them the most should have a name for them!

I love them so much. It's been a good year for me and binturong experiences! I don't have the photos of them all atm, but I got to meet Baloo again, do a hand feed (raffle prize at the conference), do an enclosure scatter feed with a grumpy old man, and do a fence feed with 6(!) chaos goblins. ☺️🍿☺️

So about that - they didn't really have a name before, but David went to a viverrid conference at the start of the year and all the keepers thought they needed a name and that was what they came up with! It seems to have spread beyond just the keepers now though, so I think it worked?

I was trying to see if I had a photo of a roughly 6 month old bintlet swatting an otter it shares an enclosure with, but I don't think I do! They are little chaos goblins though. But tree otters - they are arboreal!

Baloo still wants tummy tickles, but it's mostly the keepers he gets them from (my partner now volunteers at this zoo). He still wants to play with everyone, hence my mini bonus feed and tickle, but whilst he was on his rope and tearing the poor keeper's shoulder up lol.

I love binturongs and I love Baloo (this one) but his knife hands were leaving more than a couple of gouges on the back of my neck at this point lol. Absolutely worth it (I did it again as a bonus on world binturong day this year when I was doing an access roll through there, but no climbing on me).

Physical contact with the bint above was in a closely monitored zoo setting (which doesn't do it with him anymore because he was ill and is getting older) and was because this individual was hand reared, so was very keen on tummy tickles.
