Someone's a busy girl this weekend (it's me!). I'll be in Charlotte, NC on Saturday the 15th for the @geekerymarket.bsky.social , and Knightdale, NC on Sunday the 16th, selling my books and talking word-life. Come by if you're in the area! #writerlife

Each year, I set a goal to read 52 books. That amounts to one a week, and I usually make it or exceed it. Looks like I'll exceed it this year, because I already made it and there are still a few weeks left in 2025. How many books a year do you read, on average? Is it the right amount for you?

I always hear the "typical" in "neurotypical" with such derision…but maybe that's because I so often feel it.

The best hiding places are often in plain sight, wouldn't you agree? And Terrible Truths are often just beneath the surface of very ordinary things, like a tea cup, or between the covers of a book. Oh, don't mind him. That's "just" my dog. #HorrorWritersChat

We're having such a beautiful fall in my corner of North Carolina. Bright and crisp, just like I like it. Cold enough for a nice cozy sweater. How's the season treating you?

How was your Halloween, if you celebrate? I squashed a lot into a few hours--decorating, feeding trick or treaters, and doing a spooky story reading in a cemetery as part of a Haunted Trail and party. This is my favorite picture--me hugging Vincent, my new skeleton :-)

More horror stories I love in celebration of the season. Here's a good one from Mary's Shelley's Frankenstein. The first time I read this, the "monster" broke my heart so hard. #readinghorror

That reminds me of how afraid my little sister was of my doll collection when we were kids--Effanbee dolls' eyes reflected light too well for her comfort.

It might be helpful at this phase of my life if more people actually believed that middle-aged women were witches. Might encourage them to keep their foolishness to themselves if they thought I could turn them into newts :-) #HorrorWritersChat

Halloween is so soon! To celebrate, please enjoy the opening to The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson which might be my personal favorite opening to a book ever. #readinghorror #halloweenreads

Just read What Stalks the Deep by @tkingfisher.com It’s the third one in her sworn soldier series and I would say that’s my favorite series but the fact is I really love nearly everything she’s written. I did really enjoy it though. Any other fans?

I have little dogs: 17 & 21 lbs, with little legs. I love them, but they're limiting how far I can walk which is my main form of exercise. So we got them a stroller. I thought my stroller days were over here in my over-50 era, but it was great! We walked twice as far without hurting the little guys.

That was fun :-) I got splatterpunk.
