This shit is the #2 reason why I’m trying to wean myself off of Twitter… Nobody on that app is capable of having relational conversations. If you dare to have one it’s considered self-centered. Meanwhile, relational conversations IS the primary building block to creating sympathy and empathy

I’ll think of more later, but these are my 2025 predictions for now
Prediction 1: Hip-hop has a banner year. The genre had its most explosive year since 2018. Megan kicked it off with "Hiss" which more or less exposed all the hit dogs that were going to holler, especially the pink wig lady. Then, Kendrick dissected The Canadian in what (I would argue) was the biggest story in popular music this year. Add this to Kendrick surprise-releasing GNX (which had the 2nd biggest streaming debut this year) with a trio of hits to take over streaming platforms, the upcoming Kendrick-SZA stadium tour, and the nominations for Best Rap Song at these upcoming Grammys being more culturally relevant than they have in years, and a power vacuum in hip-hop that hasn't existed in a decade (as The Canadian's "cred" is at an all-time low)... I think hip-hop is poised to have one of its biggest years. Though, this really depends on the genre's artists' drives to fill that power vacuum. No, I do not see Drake as a part of this "banner" year (will open with big numbers but absolutely no longevity). Prediction 2: K-pop bubble bursts (more than it already has). Bear with me here. Things that happened this year that make me say this are: 1) Hybe's civil war; 2) NewJeans entering record contract hell as a result of #1; 3) no Gen 4 group stepping up and filling the power vacuum created as a result of #2; 4) several groups losing commercial steam outside of Korea including veteran groups thought to be safe (e.g. Twice); 5) the two biggest groups in K-pop also becoming veteran groups, being expected to not release as much music. I could be entirely wrong about this considering how dynamic K-pop is, but groups being unable to fill power vacuums despite many attempts makes me pessimistic about the scene's viability on the international stage. Prediction 3: Repeat of the early 2010s moment of widespread push for progressivism. There’s much ado about today’s youth supposedly voting more conservative than other generations at their age (though this gets murky as data shows young Democrats stayed home in November, not that young voters switched parties), but I think it’s because 2019 was the last “normal” year and Trump was president that year, hence people voting for him. The global anti-incumbency trend is just that. Democrats just happened to be the incumbents. Conservatives will misunderstand the moment and not realize that their electoral wins aren’t popular mandates. As a result of conservatives implementing deeply unpopular policy, I can see something akin to the early 2010s moment where EverydayFeminism-type content was mainstreamed as a backlash to said conservative policy. Prediction 4: Elon Musk flies too close to the sun, online conservatism is fractured into many small irrelevant pieces. This is kind of a cheap shot since it’s happening right now, but I think that the current shitstorm over H1B visas will rage on into further shitstorms—right-wingers have spent the last eight years discussing kulturkampf instead of policy. Now that they realize they don’t actually agree with each other, it will create irreconciable fractures between the different factions of the right that united under the MAGA banner. I also expect Trump to dump Elon within the first 100 days of his administration. I think this combined with Prediction 3 will see those left of center beginning to take up more space again.
