Seeing the amazing imaging work being done by these folks, especially the Single Photon Avalanche Diode imaging and effects was a real highlight for me reporting this season
In our new Emerging Technologies episode Rebecca Willett, Stanley Chan, and David Lindell join hosts @sam.mathcomms.com and @sadiewit.bsky.social for a conversation about computational imaging, including glasses for telescopes and speed of light matrix effects

Come for the math, stats, and computational science, but definitely stay for the donuts
Our emerging technology on Carry the Two this time around is Materials Science! And it features donuts, not to mention Danny Perez, Logan Ward, and Jason Hattrick Simpers chatting with hosts @sam.mathcomms.com and @sadiewit.bsky.social

I learned so much reporting this episode about quantum computing and information. Not least of which is that the speed of light is possibly less constant than I think it should be

Also, remember the reason they are doing all of this. They are scared of us because we are fucking magic. We know who we are and refuse to conform just because people want us to. That gives us a power that they can never imagine, the power to be wholly and truly ourselves!

Combine this with Skermetti and I am so scared for trans youth out there today and tomorrow and until we can all agree in this country that we will actually respect the right for people to live as their whole selves

Breaking: The Trevor Project received a stop-work order last night on its contract with the national 988 suicide prevention hotline. The Trump administration is eliminating the option for LGBTQ callers to the hotline to press 3 and connect with someone who specializes in LGBTQ mental health.

Not messing with librarians is always good advice, they are much harder than you think they are

www.lawdork.com/p/dont-mess-...
Monday's lesson: Don't mess with librarians.
Ultimately, though, the question with Trump's effort to take over the Library of Congress could come down to whether Congress says, "Don't mess with Congress."

This restructuring is a disaster beyond imagining. Start with the major lose of jobs continue with the draining of expertise both organizational and scientific and end with everything being lumped into five applied areas with no space for basic and theoretical work

No piece has more accurately expressed my currently feelings about our information world than this one www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

Also, the writing is just exceptional: "the past has vanished, the future is inconceivable, and my eyes are clamped open to view the endlessly resupplied now."
My Brain Finally Broke
Much of what we see now is fake, and the reality we face is full of horrors. More and more of the world is slipping beyond my comprehension.

Loved the most recent Stadio (like I have all the others) but I have a different answer to @okwonga.bsky.social’s question at the end than @ryanhunn.bsky.social, I would either sub Bendtner for Eduardo in the 2nd minute against Birmingham 2008 or Rosicky for Ramsey at 55 minutes against Stoke 2010

The 3 steps to get a scholar removed:
1 Start a website
2 Algorithmically create text about how a scholar supports terrorism
3 Post that text

That's it, those 3 things are enough to scare an Ivy League institution into placing a scholar on leave. This is horrific www.nytimes.com/2025/03/12/u...

@ryanhunn.bsky.social @okwonga.bsky.social 3 goals, a missed penalty, 2 red cards, and another Antony revenge tour goal, and only 1 minute for Betis Sociedad? Come on, I watched extended highlights just so I could follow what I expected would be a solid 20 minutes on that match 🤪
