I read a lot. Classics, horror, fantasy and sci-fi. I write too, because like the old saying, “A writer is a reader moved to emulation.”
These are the books I finished reading in Oct 2025. I seemed to have a theme going since three of the books displayed red prominently on the cover and one of those even included the word red.

I went book shopping on Saturday and then my wife found the Terry Goodkind novels on Sunday. Here is the book haul. Have you read any? Was it good?

Finished The Silence of the Lambs today. Excellent book. I am glad that the movie held so close to Thomas Harris’s original story.

Probably read Stephen Lawhead’s Taliesin next. In Jan 2026 the Daily Wire+ releases a series based on the Pendragon Cycle.

When I checked the mail, a big red wasp apparently landed on me without me noticing. I put my arm down and he popped me on the inside of the elbow. That’s the first time I have been stung in probably 30 years. Oh well, my fault for not paying better attention.

Why does my coffee maker sound like an angry kitten?

The book I received in the mail yesterday was The Silence of the Lambs (1988) by Thomas Harris, book 2 of the Hannibal Lecter series. I started reading it before bed last night. And why not? How else am I supposed to dream of fava beans and a nice chianti? (1/ 2)

Today, I finished reading Red Rain (2012) by R.L. Stein. He is best known for his widely popular children’s spooky series Goosebumps, but Red Rain is definitely written for adults. And I would like to find more of his adult horror. (1/3)

I finished reading this oldie but goodie today. It came out in 2003, so it as about time. This is the 2nd book of Dan Brown’s hero Robert Langdon, and it was made into a movie in 2006 starring Tom Hanks.(1/ 2)

Best shot I could get of Lemmon comet.

I watched Vicious (2025) on Paramount+. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a score of only 34%. That seems a bit harsh to me. The creepy factor was definitely high. There are some difficult-to-watch scenes, but it is a horror movie. They aren’t meant to offer warm and fuzzies.

It's been out since Aug, but I finally bought The End of the World as We Know It. My copy was the last on the store’s shelf. Collects nearly 800 pages of stories set in the universe of Stephen King’s The Stand. What is your Friday read? #Reading #readingcommunity

Tonight, I will start reading HOUSE OF LEAVES by Mark Z. Danielewski & FIRST BLOOD by David Morrell. HoL is a horror novel that I have meant to read for several years. FB is, of course, the first RAMBO story. Morrell’s book for writers is great, so I'll try his fiction.

I bought THE POWER OF MYTH by Joseph Campbell a few days ago. This book and Campbell’s THE HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES should be in every writer’s library, in my opinion.

I've always thought it was a mistake for a writer to use big words just to sound smart. The opposite happens. Maybe I heard it from Camus. 😉

Working on a new piece of fan art. Any guesses as to who it is? (All winners will receive a most excellent thumbs up and possibly jazz hands from me. Unfortunately, my camera is not on, so you won't be able to see it. 😁)

This isn’t an ad. Not an affiliate. Just wanted to show you how I protect my books. It won’t raise the value but will help lessen further damage. I use mylar (a kind of plastic) book sleeves. Just slip the cover into the sleeve and fold it to the height.

I borrowed this 1952 classic from the Miami Public Library, and finished it last night. Excellent book. No wonder it won the National Book Award for Fiction. It was Ellison’s first novel, and the only one published during his lifetime. #classics #Literature

Reading Abercrombie’s newest The Devils. Cover looks like a horror novel, & the blurb says fantasy. 30 pages in so far. No magic yet, but there is talk of monsters. The things the characters say is hilarious.

My awesome son spotted this spiky decor in a store and got it for me. Not branded, but if you grew up loving sci-fi or superheroes in the late ’70s/early ’80s—especially Superman—you’ll get it. Thanks, Trip. I love it.

Today’s digital sketchbook practice. Andrew Loomis developed some great techniques for mapping the human head. Rebelle 7.

Do you practice in either a digital or traditional sketchbook?

My friend Joseph (@joseph_ashy22 on IG) asked me to post more muscle anatomy studies. A head study isn't exactly muscles, but it is what I have been working on recently. HB graphite and brush pen.

By the way, I encourage you to check out Joseph's artwork. He has a great, whimsical style. #ink

I’m asking him who his favorite Star Trek character is. He said, “Inigo Montoya.” At least, I think that’s what he said. It sounded like, “BEEEEEEEP!!!!!!” #starwars #r2d2 #planetcomicon
