This is a really nice sentence.

"The beauty of an organic movement that takes off, the brilliance of it, lies in the nearly accidental nature that created it in the first place."

Good column.

Lack of sufficient healthcare started YEARS ago. Trump and Congress cut Medicaid.

Post WW II, AMA financed a nationwide campaign against national health insurance. The campaign used mass advertising to associate NHI with socialism and private insurance with ‘American Way’.

Why the US doesn’t have national health insurance: The political role of the AMA
The US healthcare system relies on a heavily subsidised and lightly regulated private sector, and despite living in the world’s wealthiest country, millions of Americans remain uninsured, underinsured, or unsure of their coverage. This column examines the rise of private health insurance after WWII, when the American Medical Association – an interest group representing physicians – financed a nationwide campaign against National Health Insurance. Directed by the country’s first political public relations firm, the campaign used mass advertising to associate NHI with socialism and private insurance with the ‘American Way’.

Agree, bad optics, But, as a former wilderness instructor. I worked with several NOLS trained instructors. They were better trained in both technical and interpersonal communication skills than those from other programs, including mine and Outward Bound.
