The Watermelon Foundation for Justice is collaborating with ILPS this Canada Day to bring awareness to the Genocide in Palestine as well as to Canada as a modern empire and colonial power. Canada Day is after-all is the celebration of a “successful settler colony.” We must bring attention to this fact. Surviving Indigenous people in Canada know the violence that comes from our colonial governments. Many refugee and immigrant survivors that have come to Canada also know the violence of empire and of extractive colonial practices. The colonial worldview leads to dispossession of land and of life. Many Canadian citizens don’t connect modern colonial power (and colonial worldviews) with its symptoms: Racism and racist policy, Disconnection from land, Greed, Gross misuse of power, Resource extraction, Physical and sexual violence, Homelessness and substance abuse, Mental Illness, and ultimately soul loss. We will twists these forms of harm through organization, education, shared struggle, and mutual aid. We resist ✊🏽 We will have information tables set up near the Canada Day festivities in the East Village. Our intention is to engage with the public and have conversations. We will be fundraising and raising awareness for Palestine 🇵🇸 We do this also for all lands that are suffering the harms of structural colonial violence. Please join us at the upside down church July 1st in the East Village!
