Watching a troop of meerkat wake up and emerge in the Makgadigadi area of Botswana was a treat. I sat on the ground (after checking for scorpions) and they ran around me as I snapped photos.

The lights on Nubble Lighthouse turned off overnight, but they returned before the sunrise and set up this nice long exposure view in the cold winter morning.

This vulture was one of our last sightings in the Makgadigadi region of Botswana. There were lions hunting in the area, and it must have been waiting for an opportunity to scavenge.

The sun finally came up next to Nubble Lighthouse and silhouetted the distant Boon Island light (to the left). A very cold morning but worth it for the view.

This leopard just hopped down from a tree, and walked into the low sunset light to find... an open grassy area to roll around in. Very catlike.

A pride of lions stopped for a drink by a flooded pool in the Mababe Depression. This one had a hop over one corner on the way out. The waters were rising quickly from one day to the next as the water rushed down from the Okavango Delta.

We had seen the pack hunting the night before, and the next morning at sunrise we caught them coming down the road reunited with their cubs. The cubs were 2-3 months old at the time.
