A little bit more done. I'm hoping the simple strips and squares go much faster than the X's.

Oh, I claimed "easy", but it's certainly not fast. This second one, even tho confident, took 50 minutes. Still faster than if I hand sewed it tho.

Going to bed; stayed up later than I meant to. When I sit with this again it'll be a lot less anxiety. Trying always beats anxiety.

It works!!!
I wasn't sure I'd be able to do this, not with a machine, anyways. I figured I'd have to be full neurotic, super slow, precut everything and hand sew or nothing would line up. But hey, it's not perfect, but darn close. ✨ The foundation paper piecing technique makes it easy.

Tried my first foundation pattern with the sewing next to the fold instead of through the paper - it works! But I'm going to have to redesign + reprint it so that I add a quarter inch around the arrow point. It's far too easy for me to forget and chop it short.

I made my quilt into a template! I don't know if it's what I need, but yay, it printed to proper size!

I suspect I'll be sewing pairs of the strips and squares, combining into a row, while the X patterns will need to be cut into 4. But aligning these pairs into 1 column helps visually.

Visual mockup to size in Illustrator. It's fine for design, but not for the math. Everything is based on the x's and they're not distributed properly. I think I'm going to have to create blocks of measured space to understand how to make this quilt (maybe alter to ruler fractions).

I was putting it away, then decided to have one more go on the pale blush fabric.

It's no longer a plus quilt, the entire reason I started this project. But damn, I actually like how it looks. 😐 (So many little weird pieces, triangles and arrows. 😫 How quickly I've complicated things.)

Trying completely different patterns. Not liking any of it.

I removed the black pieces because of the high contrast not looking great with the ombre, but what remains doesn't have strong enough contrast for discerning larger shapes. Think I'm going to revisit initial ideas.

Indecisive, which I find super draining. A background color could make it cohesive, but it also means much more work.

I do like the ombre... But it also feels like it misses the point of the plus quilt that seems perfect for a more spontaneous pattern.

I dunno.
My brain *needs* a pattern, but usually cohesion with stuff like this comes more from a background. Like, if each plus had a 1/4 inch frame around them in a matching fabric, it would likely be everything I want - or so I tell myself to overcomplicate.

Maybe more colors?

Today, I cut up a bunch of strips for this small plus quilt (although maybe x's depending on how I align things). I don't know how to proceed from here. Does one make the pluses first, or pin everything together and sew?

If I do it by pluses, I might plan the layout better.

I think this froggy is done. I was following a pattern out of a kit my brother got me. I altered things a bit cuz I think it's cuter this way. (Like the muppet arms. 💕) I kinda want to make it a smaller doll to hug, tbh...

Worked on this today, instead of watching the News. Then I saw the News and the absolute devastation of what those 8 Senate traitors have truly done was a little easier, but not in any way easy.
2025 is the flavor of bile + The Handmaid's Tale.

Lil guy still needs arms.

Schumer is at the top of this list. Every corporate Dem is on this list as they sacrifice the willing while destroying the cause.

These senators don't care about what we're fighting for. They don't care that every year, thousands of Americans will die from the cost of healthcare. Primary them out.

I was looking up songbird references for the thing I'm coloring - they're so round and floofy! ✨🥺✨

Trying alcohol markers, colored pencils, and gouache for this one. I like the results, but the alcohol markers bleed through. I'll have to use gouache on the back, maybe w/ clear gesso and acryla gouache.

Still fighting with the jelly gouache; it doesn't want to flow. Maybe ox gall?

Pulled out the watersolube oils, cleaned up my palette covered in old green paint from this painting, found my tabletop easel. I'm lying to myself. 😔 I want to lose myself in detail, but I don't have the energy.

Now to put it all away. 🌧️

Added a couple drops of my homemade watercolor base and glycerin to the jelly gouache. I'll know tomorrow how it goes. I also ordered some dextrin to help with the surface tension and leveling; I'm not happy with the impasto happening. But that won't arrive for weeks.

Fighting with jelly gouache has me wanting to get back to painting. I've been so exhausted, this has sat for... I dunno. I think since 2022? Started w/ acrylics, then I coated it to complete w/ oils, but the shine sets off my migraines.

I want to finish it just to blend with oils again.

I told myself to keep a limited palette... Then I thought "pink lemonade". Things went chaotic soon after.

Every time I try to keep things simple, my ADHD sweeps in. Maybe once I finish it, it'll look more cohesive.

Stopping here tonight. The first one looks kinda shriveled. I love making little marks to alter color/tone but it does seem to age the subject. Think I'm going to have to refresh on what a lemon looks like. 😅

Gouache on a coloring book.

Got some cheap jelly gouache + a gorgeous adult coloring book. I want to play at painting without always wondering "what should I make?"

Least resistance. I've been too tired. Like, it's either plan about making things, or make something already planned. +No bleed thru!

Malachite stress testing my #quilt project storage system. So far, it's all together and no floof!

I stalled on my mini #quilt cuz I wanted too much while not knowing what I wanted. So I decided on something super simple - at least, it looks simple. Just a bunch of squares that form plus signs.

Think these colors will be nice, but I'm not sure how the satin blue will behave w/ the cottons.

Done!✨ Painted the edges pink and filled in any lost drills.
I started this when so ill, I couldn't lift my arms to work on it most days. Honestly didn't think I'd ever finish it. Then the new thyroid meds helped + one day it was actually done.
Think it's going on my studio door.
