This largely has the effect of disengaging people from competitions that are (1) worth watching and (2) rather *need* the engagement. Current – growing – level of atomisation does not serve either the fans or the sport.
funny week of football television viewing. I have the usual tv subscriptions. Quite fancied some women's CL but not enough to subscribe to Disney+, sorry. Quite fancied some men's WC qualifiers but not enough to *pay-per-view* on Amazon Prime, sorry. How many different things should we need?!

The final instalment of @sport.theguardian.com 100 greatest men’s Ashes cricketers of all time is live and No 1 is, quite simply, the greatest Aussie of all time who didn’t appear in Neighbours or once say “That’s not a knife, THAT’s a knife”. RIP Warney.

NEW: The biggest union in the BBC, Bectu, has written to culture secretary Lisa Nandy and BBC chair Samir Shah, demanding the removal of Robbie Gibb from the BBC Board.

They say Gibb, a political appointee, is a “direct block to the BBC maintaining its chartered objective of independence”.

Just finished season 3 of The Diplomat. Bit too Mills & Boon at times, and really not having Bradley Whitford and Allison Janney as a couple, but ultimately another superb bit of drama with another cracking cliffhanger. Best episode? For sure one at the beach house when Trowbridge goes off message.
