Rust is the #7 most-used programming language (JS/TS excepted).

But despite that relatively low placement, it tops the rankings for languages that have the most features missing from JavaScript itself.

Congrats to PewDiePie for being cited by two people as a "developer they follow". Guess he's one of us now!

(I on the other hand got cited by nobody at all… and I'm the one making the dang survey! 😡)

I read this as "five londoners who developed superpowers to secure a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes" and was underwhelmed, yet also intrigued…

According to my Japanese dictionary, there is a dedicated verb (割く) that can mean “to have a tattoo in the corner of one's eye”.

I’m not sure how often that comes up outside of Kimetsu no Yaiba…

I've been thinking about migrating away from @vercel.com for a long time but this seals the deal.

@render.com already hosts quite a lot of the State of surveys infrastructure, I'm sure it'll handle the Next.js apps just fine.

Randomly found a very funny transcription mistake… "React Vercel Components" indeed!

From @syntax.fm "Wes’ New Site: Gatsby → React Server Components" syntax.fm/show/907/wes... (great episode otherwise, love the behind-the-scenes look!)

"You can download the fully translated file below", but no download link is provided… And this shit happens literally half the time with LLMs!

How can anybody think for even a second that this is what's going to replace human jobs…? Are we living in the same universe??

What's your favorite miss-spelling of @chriscoyier.net's name?

I kinda like "Chris Coyote" myself…

Women and non-binary respondents are less likely to:

- watch dev content on YouTube
- participate in GitHub, Stack Overflow, etc.

But more likely to join smaller-scale communities such as:

- Discord
- conferences
- local meetups

Turns out, if you want to earn 50% more all you need to do is change your job title from "frontend developer" to "frontend engineer"!*

if you compare white men (just because we do constitute a majority of developers in western countries) vs women/non-b respondents of color (i.e. minority groups), the delta in open-source participation gets even bigger…
June 26, 2025 at 7:49 AM
This kind of vaguely passive-aggressive interaction happens all the time in open-source, and it's easy enough for me to ignore.

But I do wonder if a women or a person of color would maybe find it harder to move past something like this, just because their radar is more attuned to rejection.
June 26, 2025 at 7:40 AM
Generally speaking, women and non-binary respondents are much more likely to have had to resort to action (including seeking therapy, switching careers, etc.) as a result of negative workplace experiences.
June 25, 2025 at 6:16 AM
Gender and gender identity (blue) rank first as discrimination factors for younger respondents but get overtaken by age past 30.
June 25, 2025 at 6:16 AM
Men and women/non-binary respondents generally suffer from roughly the same workplace issue; except when it comes to mental health issues and discrimination, both of which affect women and non-b respondents at a much higher rate.

Employees were also the group most likely to have seen their income increase over the past year.
June 25, 2025 at 6:16 AM
Company employees as a group have the second highest median income just after CEOs/founder (but they're not far behind).
June 25, 2025 at 6:16 AM
The median number of employers respondents have worked for throughout their career was 3.
June 25, 2025 at 6:16 AM
Having a higher education degree leads to higher income, but it doesn't actually need to be in a field related to programming or engineering.
June 25, 2025 at 6:16 AM
As expected, the more experience you have, the more you earn–although past 15 years of professional experience the income gains aren't that meaningful.
