this assumes that "the libs" were ever on our side to begin with, which belies the underlying (incorrect) assumption that "libs" are just "reasonable leftists" instead of what they actually are, which is conservative.
I don't know to politely explain this but if you start a political movement bent on insulting people who disagree with you ("the libs"), eventually "the libs" will start feeling less sympathy for you. That's not the same as wishing harm, but ask yourself how society reliably functions.

“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity” is a useful axiom for not getting mad at your coworkers for making mistakes.
It’s not a sound way to engage with systems of power.

I think assuming other people are stupid / ineffective is one of the most subtle and common forms of brain poison that people on the nominal “left” have to contend with. And I’m not excluding myself from this analysis
