Crazy.
Pigeons board a Delta flight, causing pandemonium and 2 trips back to the gate. A passenger was seen using his jacket in an attempt to catch one of the pigeons.

My last day in #Basel. The last time I walk past the most beautiful red townhouse in the world.

By the way, if you look close enough, you can see that the crest of the canton, the Baselstab, hasn't been fully standardised yet when it was decorated. It shows in two different directions. #Switzerland

Yesterday, I teased a little bit more #Excavation content. Even in the middle of the Egyptian desert, daily life is important. Thus, we had to take care of some little troublemakers. I recently created a graphic to represent my scientific journey. I'm really looking forward to working with the largest group on historical and handwritten documents in Sweden. However, I am also very excited about the next step after that.

A graphic representing my personal research background. In the back, there is a map of Europe. Three stations are marked, each one with some additional information. The first is Munich in Germany, where I did my MA in Egyptology and a BSc in Media Informatics, both at the LMU Munich. The next station is Basel, Switzerland, where I did a MSc in Computer Science as well as a PhD in Computer Science (but while working on ancient Egyptian material). The last stop (for now) is Luleå in Sweden, far in the north, where I am now doing a PostDoc in the field of Historical Document Analysis.

One of the more scenic pictures I took in 2010 [sic!] during my second excavation period. Back in the day, I was very fond of photography and stylistic aspects like using natural scene elements as frame. In the background, there is the Nile valley.

FunFact: You can even see the buildings we have been excavating on the imagery! The foundations for tower buildings used by priests in the Ptolemaic times.

I've been spending quite some time down there, cleaning walls and drawing them to grid paper.

Break time!

I've spent some minutes to register some more of the places in the world I've already visited. Quite astonishing for a small boy from Munich who never wanted to see the world. Egypt, though, was mainly excavation digs and scientific studies.

Markers for visited places in Europe. Mainly Germany and Switzerland, but also Italy, Austria, the UK, Belgium, Netherlands, France and Sweden. I guess, in the future I need to reach a little bit farther... Markers for places I have visited in Egypt. Mainly in Middle Egypt (as we were digging in Tuna el-Gebel), but also Luxor, Cairo, the Fayyum and Iskanderiyya. Erm. Alexandria. Some places I have visited in the United States (before they went south). New York, Philly, Boston. All east coast.

Every time I see a map concerning geopolitics these days, I am getting slightly nervous. Thank God there are the Finns. And fingers crossed that 21 months are not enough for Putin to do something super stupid. 💀

My life is just a chain of very bad decisions. 😬
A map of Northern Europe. There is Sweden, Finland, next to it Russia. The original map is from srf.ch, where they indicated Karelia, a region between Finland and Russia. I also indicated my future place of living - Luleå, in northern Sweden. It's not far from the Finnish border, and thus close to Russia as well. Yay!
