If you are considering adding a dog in your life, please consider adopting. There are so many extraordinary animals waiting for a forever home. I’m so glad I went to the shelter that Friday afternoon many years ago - it was a decision that’s forever changed me 💖

I considered myself not an owner, but a steward for her during her time on Earth, and it was such a privilege to have her in my life. Sheba was there for me throughout the challenges of graduate school, four big moves, and so many life events.

Sheba was SO kind. She was wonderful with kids, patient with our brand new kitty, and always had a big smile when meeting new humans. A close friend of mine called her “the unbothered queen” and it’s true - nothing bothered this dog.

It’s difficult to know how to respond to the Make America Healthy Again movement. Its aims are admirable, its political grounding is certainly corrosive.

I welcome tighter regulations in the US on what enters our food, but this paranoid style of thinking will continue to chip away at public health and welfare institutions for being “corrupt” or “inefficient,” leaving the most vulnerable abandoned.
