Just published a recreation of Apple’s Liquid Glass style on the @figma.com Community!

It’s fully editable and built using native Figma effects. Phew, I’ve got a lot to learn about this new style, but this was a really fun one to practice! 🤓

Every time I run qual research, I always consider the context I start users from bc that initial context sets their expectation and their mental model. That frame of reference is how they can make comparisons and articulate real trade offs in utility and value between this vs that.

"Sinners" opened to overwhelmingly positive reviews. It had a bigger opening weekend box office than 9 of the last 10 Oscar winners for Best Picture. Yet, mainstream media is questioning whether Ryan Coogler's magnum opus is a success

Ryan Coogler's Black vampire epic topped the box office in its opening weekend, but some in the media wanted to focus on whether the film would make a profit. WTF?

I know I don’t talk about my Type 1 Diabetes too much, but having lived with it for 29 years, I want to shout out the Ws when they come. There’s a thing called an A1c that determines how you’re doing and it ranges from between 5-10, low being good. Today I got a 5.9 and I’m so fricking The excited.

The fundamental advice I give to designers at all levels:

• Never present something without defining what it is in advance.

• Never get attached to the solution, only the problem you’re solving.

• Never ask for feedback on the spot. If you do get it, ignore it.

It’s been a hectic couple of weeks. I fell and broke my elbow and just had surgery. Thankfully it wasn’t my right elbow, but doing design one handed has been an interesting challenge so far haha.

I know everyone’s posting Val Kilmer’s famous roles, but Gay Perry was one of the best performances of his career and he stole that whole movie in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

In many orgs, UX work is a never-ending stream of wireframes, tactical design decisions, & under-valued usability testing. I talked with PMX Chicago about how effective UX leaders have turned their organization from reactive to proactive.

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other people—especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

Might sound a bit deflating, but it’s better for a design system to be dependable than aspirational.

1. Do what you say you’re going to do.
2. Ship when you say you’re going to ship.
3. Fix things when they’re broken.
4. Support folks when they need help.

Boring, but effective.

Awhile back, someone asserted that UX is in the business of quality. I’d say that UX should be in the business of creating trust, as in, “I trust that I’m not being scammed. I trust that this works the way I expected. I trust in the service provided, etc.”

Not sure there's ever been an artist I had a bigger turn around on in my life. Couldn't understand or enjoy any of his stuff when I was younger, but grew into a full on evangelist as I got older and learned how to absorb what he was putting into the world. Truly no one else quite like him. RIP.
