Lots of stars this morning.

I am grateful for sitting outside with coffee.

Likely some would call it a grounding exercise. What do you call something that brings you joy and calm?

What’s the professional thing you want to see in the world?

I’m learning I don’t appreciate writing for the algorithm or crafting effective hooks when I’m posting for myself.

What I do appreciate is connection. I attended CultureCon West last week, and I connected with people.

Lots of questions.
Lots of listening.
Lots of humanity.

I want that here.

One of my goals returning to time blocking is to sit outside in the early morning.

I don’t have a ‘spectacular view’ per se, but I do have a view.

It’s cool and crisp in the morning right now. It’s calm.

I appreciate it.

This week, I’m back to utilizing a professional strength of mine.

I’m time blocking again.

I went away from it with hope to be more flexible with my time … but turns out I struggled to be consistent.

Doesn’t mean it was wrong to try. It does give me clarity on what is my strength.

I get to experience my son’s first orchestra concert today.

I’ve noticed so much joy from my kids when they’re figuring things out. My hope for us adults is we experience the same amount of joy when we do the same.

"The truth is that books don’t sell very well in the supermarket, where there are no other books. They do better in the bookstore, right next to all the other books."

Made me think finding and spending time with other folks who are pursuing their professional thing helps us all be successful. 💟

There are two ways for an artisan or professional to see the world: Scarcity. This is the idea that if there were fewer photographers, more people would hire me to do wedding pictures. That if the …

Most people think networking is about asking great questions. And it is—partially. But the real key? Letting people know you. 🧵

I spent 7 years at a job—and when I left, almost no one came to say goodbye. It wasn’t because they didn’t care. It was because I never let them in. A lesson in networking, relationships and being human.

Ever been in a room where things you want to do are happening? Start there. Put yourself in spaces where you can absorb, observe, and later apply.

You don’t need permission to shift careers in your 30s. You need to stop assuming you aren’t qualified. Exposure + action > ‘official’ experience.

I never worked in TV. But years later, I built an esports show using what I absorbed in college. Exposure matters. What have you picked up without realizing it?

Your best experience might not be on your resume. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have it. Leverage what you’ve been around, not just what you’ve done.
February 10, 2025 at 2:34 AM
I didn’t bring my resume. I brought my exposure.

You might not think you have the experience to change careers. But what if I told you your exposure is just as valuable? 🧵

It is more valuable to push someone else to tell you no than to say no to yourself. Don’t disqualify yourself from opportunities—let them do it for you.

I wish more people left voicemails.

Not because I enjoy listening to them in the moment … I have often been in the camp of “just text me.”

But because it might be the last time I hear that voice if not everything goes according to plan. One never knows.

It is difficult to target work that uses your best skills as much as possible ... when you don't know your best skills.

The best thing that happened to me was my boss demoted me.

I became unstuck and realized that all I accomplished since graduation was wasting time going after things I was truly excited about.

A Facebook reel popped up on my feed the other day that compared parking at Walmart and parking downtown, and it struck me as a perfect metaphor for going after the professional thing you want to see in the world. https://buff.ly/40UFdnh

Once I knew my favorite skills, I could approach a new reality targeting work that used those specific things ... and say no to the stuff that didn't.

My challenge for you is to imagine what your professional life might look like if you used your best skills more often each day.
