I’m in line for the Over the Garden Wall concert. A guy in a Dodgers hat slowly drives his car down the alley way, blasting music. His window is rolled down and he’s drinking a Modelo. He sees me holding a Liquid Death, holds out his beer, and says “Cheers.” We clink drinks and I say “Go Dodgers.”

Caught a matinee of the Blasting Company’s OVER THE GARDEN WALL concert. Crazy to think the show came out eleven years ago and how long ago that feels now. A relic from a much different age.

GET HIM TO GREEK LIFESTYLE. When thumbing this sequence, I felt it needed an insert shot of Francine opening Stan’s Bucket List, which meant we needed to see something of what’s inside. Stan’s got a lot of ambition!

From A LITTLE MYSTERY, I had to design for missing persons and write a bunch of text. I don’t know why but the mundanity of “small business owner” makes me smile. “Ted Whatshisnuts” was in the script but obviously he’s Ted only to his friends.

This is from the episode FOOTPRINTS where Stan and Roger (as Stan Matthews) create the hit TV show AUDIT DOGS. All the signs were written by me in the thumbnail stage and no one ever changed them. I’m oddly proud of “We Stan the Stans!”

Eight years ago I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in animation. This has been a rockier year but I was heartened to remember how much fun I had, from weddings to concerts to wild nights in Vegas with the best crew in the biz. And I got promoted to assistant director! What a ride.

Finally visited Cole’s French Dip in DTLA and lived my dream of being a 1940s alcoholic screenwriter.

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA: This movie rules. Much like Jack Burton, I cannot tell you exactly what happened in it. Bonus: Hilarious John Carpenter/Dean Cundey Q&A that hopefully no one recorded.

Wow! The actors are here!

Managed to score a giant stack of original Sherry Bobbins art, San Diego Comic Con is still good

They screened clips from the first animatics of the season. Surreal to see some of my drawings blasted out to hundreds of people. Audiences crave animatics!

On my way to San Diego Comic Con!

Thinking about becoming a DTLA guy. Maybe that could be my new thing.

Emmy Voters! Please remember to vote for AMERICAN DAD. Only one animated show would dare make an episode about the history of American cinema and the importance of labor unions. Honor the Man, Honor the Show.

I think about this joke from 30 ROCK an awful lot these days. Turns out movie theaters, cable television and physical media were the best and we were wrong to abandon them. Whoops!

As someone who originally saw FD3 theatrically and thought, “Wait, is that the INSTANT STAR girl?,” I appreciate this parenthesis.

Oh boy it’s swell to say… I’m now assistant director on AMERICAN DAD! As someone who grew up reading every book about animation and filmmaking, this really is a thrill.

AMERICAN DAD Fun Fact: The last episode to air on Fox featured the Smiths shelving the book, “American Dad on Fox.” Director Jenn Graves asked me to name the books in Stan’s office (she requested Gold Top Nuts and Rabbit Ears) so I threw in that book title, not realizing how prophetic it would be

It’s something of a miracle that this episode even exists and it’s a testament to incredible talents the AD crew. This show doesn’t exist without this unique combination of artists. Now let’s hope we never have to do it again!
