I clicked on a Billboard headline about how the latest TSwift album is, five weeks in, still at the top of the album charts, because I was wondering how they figure that out in the modern era, and to their credit the methodology is laid out right in the article.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

It's particularly true of third-party presidential runs. A third-party candidate has never won, and it's been 113 years since one even came in second.

Quite the kicker from @justincchang.bsky.social on IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT, the latest film by Jafar Panahi, and the first one he's made since he's been freed from 15 years of various combinations of prison, house arrest and travel restrictions for making art critical of the Iranian regime:
As day bleeds into night, It Was Just an Accident builds to a dramatic climax of lacerating emotional force — a sequence so intense, you can practically feel Panahi's rage burning a hole through the screen. His movie, in weighing the question of revenge vs. mercy, is an obvious warning to authoritarian regimes everywhere. But it also feels like a warning to people living under those regimes. Several weeks ago, I moderated a Q&A with Panahi in Los Angeles, a city he hadn't visited in almost 20 years. While we were talking before the Q&A, Panahi turned to me with a grave look on his face and said, "I'm worried about your country."

I just got a letter from the government of Luxembourg. Apparently I’ve been issued an ID number by the National Registry of Natural Persons. Has anyone else received this from Luxembourg? I think it’s been 10 years at least since I’ve even been to Luxembourg, so this is pretty weird.

Republicans, who’ve had unending scandals about apparent Nazi sympathizers and unrepentant racists in their own ranks, delighted in the opportunity to talk about a Democrat with a Nazi tattoo. And nationally, many progressives were ready to write Platner off. On the left-leaning social media site BlueSky, the debate about Platner now seems mostly about who’s to blame for the whole debacle.
