I haven’t been this anxious about the ending of a book since A Little Life. This is my fourth Colm Tóibín novel. He’s becoming one of my favorites.

Colum McCann is such a vibe. He’s one of my favorite writers. This book is giving Emily St John Mandel, another one of my favorite writers. #booksky 💙📚

This was a light lesson in Argentinian sociopolitical history wrapped in a supernatural horror story. After nearly 600 pages the ending felt a little sudden, but I loved the creepy mood of this novel.

His prose is always so quiet and every word perfectly placed.

This is a beautiful book about empathy. Less a novel than a collection of short stories, Olive is the connective thread, appearing as a supporting character in the stories of the residents of a small Maine town. This one earned its Pulitzer.

This is hard because I love Chris Hayes and enjoyed his first two books, A Colony In a Nation and Twilight of the Elites, but this was difficult to get through. A book about attention that could not hold mine. #goodreads #booksky 💙📚

Good turnout at the Indiana State Capitol but we’re going to need bigger and sustained crowds to stop Elon, Trump, and the Dogebags.

The Frozen River
Ariel Lawson

This is a solid and entertaining work of historical fiction. There are a few anachronisms I was going to call out but then she addressed them head-on in the author’s notes, so I’m standing down.

DNF because after the first hundred pages I decided that falconry is cruel.

I enjoy her appearances on Graham Norton but I can’t say the same about her memoir. To me, she comes across as selfish, inconsiderate, and a bit of a bully. 2025 is not off to a great start reading.

This is described as feminist speculative fiction and I think that’s right. It’s also a little sci-fi in the way that Emily St. John Mandel sometimes is. Its deliberate vagueness about the apocalyptic event and setting kept me reading for clues - none came, but it was all the better for it.

I was into this for the first five hundred pages but then the last fifty were so poorly written and unbelievable that I wanted to throw this book in the recycling bin. #booksky #goodreads
