I skip around and then piece it together after. I usually have a general idea of the overall plot, so it's not too hard to keep track. Although it looks like chaos to anyone else, until the draft is done.

Most advice says 6-8 weeks after you finish the manuscript. So it's not fresh in your mind. But I think it depends on the length of the story and also your overall memory. Mine is terrible, so 4-5 weeks is fine for me - it's like a new book when I read it then LOL.
