that power can’t be used freely against railroads or utilities because any small gap in their ROW renders the whole thing worthless.

instead any such claims are adjudicated before state or federal commerce commissions, which can e.g. compel a railroad to permit a grade crossing.

imagine if it actually goes to downtown/waikiki instead of an industrial park by the airport…
November 12, 2025 at 3:57 AM
agreed. but that doesn’t require billions in new infrastructure!

hmm maybe they could take a page out of seattle’s book and do freeway BRT? they already opened the station at barrington road.

it’s hard to see $1B of need on the tollway system. it’s in great shape and current expansions are already funded.

will Rte 53 come back from the dead (yet again)? illiana? or will the tollway get involved in urban projects like the eisenhower & stevenson?

that’s a mighty fine siphon

one step at a time, let’s get the clarence darrow bridge reopened first

i think partly gender?

drugstores, department stores etc were female-coded establishments and “respectable” places for women to eat, either single or in groups.

most fast food establishments of the time were heavily male-focused.

i got lucky with a short/5min line at del sur 2 weekends ago.

glad i waited, it was excellent

i haven’t seen anything concerning yet.

this article is just fear-mongering at this point, down to the hypothetical cartoons of the tacky stuff trump ~might~ approve.

and even then, it was for the largest/most significant projects (PD and lakefront protection i think). most neighborhood proposals had no review.
November 8, 2025 at 5:23 AM
division will happen, i think. all that cabrini redevelopment needs better rail access.

haven’t seen much on halsted, i think bc it’s so close to north/clybourn and folks in that direction can already catch brown at armitage.

change we can believe in
November 8, 2025 at 5:11 AM
here’s hoping we can get proper bus lanes and service planning on michigan ave, any non-US city would have figured this out long ago.

as it is, the dominance of cars has forced transit planners into some awful tradeoffs.
November 8, 2025 at 4:31 AM
the DLSD express buses are basically a commuter op from (very dense) bedroom communities into downtown.

historically they were never really planned for wrong-way or crosstown trips, esp when the red line serves north side *destinations* like universities and entertainment/sports better than DLSD.

it’s still pretty common, most of my friends in chicago are transplants from other parts of the midwest and do go home for the holidays.

ofc i’m unusual for
a) leaving the midwest for college;
b) making a lot of new friends in my 20s post college, from a pool of disproportionately non-locals

better question is when we started allowing ads in our public parks!
November 8, 2025 at 3:45 AM
the hannah horvath character didn’t help, but i assume it was a thing before that?
November 8, 2025 at 3:42 AM
can’t believe they’re gonna do this and still spare the burrito taxis

food delivery is a *luxury*
November 8, 2025 at 3:32 AM
i don’t think they intentionally skipped the transfer.

there’s just a lot of buses on michigan, and limited curb space esp for the big artics on the DLSD routes.
November 8, 2025 at 3:28 AM
single family sprinklers are absurd in rural or exurban areas, amish or not.

anywhere a municipal water supply is not available, there should be no sprinkler requirement for homes.
November 8, 2025 at 12:09 AM
yeah i am not opposed to bringing back the 11 and N11.

hopefully this will give CTA the resources for new routes on elston/clybourn and racine as well.
November 7, 2025 at 6:06 PM
i get why northsiders want a 24/7 brown line but in a citywide owl network, red+blue+orange would cover all the major compass points with rail and buses fill in the areas between.
November 7, 2025 at 5:56 PM
if keeping the whole ravenswood branch open is too costly, they could get most of the benefits by running orange to belmont via state st.

plenty of tracks for a layover, and it keeps a late-night orange/blue transfer at jackson.
