Happy Halloween everybody! For those that don’t know this is my annual thread where I keep track of how many kids come through. Usually it’s between 400 and 500. Living in a 2400 home neighborhood with sidewalks and street lights makes us a target rich environment. But it’s always fun.

@rahulbali.bsky.social was kind enough to include me as part of his story for @wabe.org about this new legal process. Please give it a listen.

Working on a group project that is preparing a document. The draft is in Century Schoolbook. First thing the leader of group did is reformat the document into Calibri because "they don't have an appellate lawyer brain" and "Century Schoolbook is too hard to read on a computer screen." 😶

Oldest daughter at UGA is studying for her quiz in politics. She’s working with her younger sister to make sure the study guide she created is correct. They are debating questions like what did the Bakke decision do? Is the right to counsel found in the 1st amendment? I’m just sitting here. Silent.

If this passes, does this mean that Midnight Yell at Texas A&M would be banned?
Bold move by Texas to say that the First Amendment only applies during daylight hours.

Can you use something other than a period to end a sentence in an appellate brief? I'm not talking about a petition or response or motion but the actual merits brief.

I'm two pages in to this brief I'm reviewing and I've already encountered a ? and a ! intentionally used.

@darthbluesky.bsky.social and pocket friends - please give special snuggles and treats to your fur friends tonight. Simon crossed the rainbow bridge today. Adopted 10 years ago from a local shelter but a purebred lover. I miss him terribly.

GA HB 65 (www.legis.ga.gov/legislation/...) will make "potlikka" the official dipping sauce of cornbread. Maybe this will get me accused of being a Yankee - I never knew that cornbread needed a dipping sauce. Some might chose to dip cornbread in butter but that's between them and their doctor

Sounds like we are going to need more employment lawyers to be involved in college sports. There’s also another side to consider - making football players employees of the university rather than student-athletes will impact course offerings and employment of instructional staff.
EXCLUSIVE: Big Ten schools are asking athletes to sign over their NIL rights, permit universities to sublicense the rights to “any and all third parties,” and surrender any legal claim to employee status as part of the planned revenue-sharing structure.

In revenue-share MOUs, schools are asking athletes to sign away NIL rights, waive employee status, and accept performance-based terms.

And we thought 2024 was the year of “Hold my beer.”

And remember folks, all rides must end in a gift shop. See you at the cash register in December.

Folks arguing about including Indiana but not Alabama and the injustice of automatic bids. Do they not follow the same schools in college hoops where we have the same arguments in March when the field of 64 is released?
