“Reviews are coming in from New York and they all say the same thing - why were the Muppets second fiddle to a magician nobody’s heard of? They only got ten minutes of stage time!”

“Ten minutes? If you ask me, that’s ten minutes too many!”

“DOH HOH HOH HOH HOH!”

Of course, there is also the similar case of Mattel quickly putting Barbie and the Rockers together to beat Hasbro’s Jem and the Holograms to market; although Jem is the more well-remembered of the two today the Rockers actually outsold her.

In 1977, Ideal, one of the many toy companies who passed on the Star Wars license when initially offered, quickly went into their archives and kitbashed some of their old toys together under the pre-existing trademark “Star Team” to quickly cash in on the trend.

Pig PR pre-Jennifer Lawrence: in 1990 the Henson Company planned a year-long media blitz to promote the opening of Muppet*Vision 3D, a Christmas special, and a 1991 movie with Miss Piggy announcing her breakup with Kermit and demanding an unauthorized biography cease publication.

I think if you were a child actor in Canada in the ‘90s you were required by law to appear in an episode of either Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark but regardless this credit for one of the writers of Gremlins 3 surprised me @spongey444.bsky.social

Although it’s probably the weakest part of the otherwise well-put-together package film Daffy Duck’s Quackbusters (one of the last projects Mel Blanc voiced before his death), the short “Night of the Living Duck” contains a rogue gallery of movie monsters at a nightclub and yes, The Fly is there

Ironically, Nintendo’s controversial “autonomous partner character which can optionally be controlled by a second player” patent may be rejected in the U.S. due to the fact Nintendo themselves filed a patent for a similar mechanic alongside the Switch hardware in 2019:

This Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade appears to be one of long-overdue video game icons - set to join Mario is none other than the Man who put video game mascots on the map - Pac-Man, that is.

It’s been a long time coming, but SpongeBob SquarePants gets his own official art book this February chronicling the entire 25-year history of the franchise! Here’s the beautiful cover and some sneak previews courtesy Animation Magazine: www.animationmagazine.net/2025/10/excl...

It’s been a long time coming, but it’s definitely a welcome addition: Mario will join the ranks of iconic characters immortalized in balloon form in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/...

Here’s a great piece from the auction - artwork for the 30th anniversary of the Henson Company gifted by Marvel Comics (who produced the Muppet comics and the Muppet Babies cartoon).

Franquin also created another comic called Gaston Lagaffe, about a bumbling office worker who usually is seen asleep at his desk or making outlandish inventions rather than actually working.

And yes, there was a Woody Woodpecker game for the Sega Master System released in Brazil

The title is a play on the Brazilian title “National Lampoon’s Vacation” was released under, which has become a pop culture shorthand there for a vacation gone wrong

Very few artists can be said to have been not only the major influence on how a particular art form was crafted while remaining the tops in that field, but Drew Struzan truly was that for movie posters. RIP.

It’s time to try chickening a jockey (or some other suitable pun): Warner Bros. has today both dated an “A Minecraft Movie” sequel for July 2027 and announced “Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo will star in their animated film “Bad Fairies”, bowing May of the same year.

Domino’s has done an entire brand redesign which on the whole isn’t too bad but it includes a new corporate font called Domino’s Sans which they point out is rounded like a pizza wherever possible which just reminds me of the Pepsi Document

This is a Muppet News Flash:

The Muppets will officially take over Walt Disney World’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Summer 2026, with an animatronic Scooter in tow (and perhaps others?)

Not to be outdone, Rob Lake’s Broadway magic show has officially welcomed Miss Piggy.

People are assuming that Nintendo’s mysterious “Close to You” short is a tie-in with Pikmin because one apparently can be seen briefly, but remember that Shigeru Miyamoto has said Pikmin are the only Nintendo characters that exist in the “real world” so to speak

Given the nickname “Miss Piggy” being lent to one of the planes Frith suggested its companion be named Kermit.

In 1996 a high-flying Gulfstream was added for recon purposes, given the name “Gonzo” due to its nose shape. Now HE would fly into a hurricane.

At first I thought they were sneakily getting around it by only placing his image on the front - which in coin terms is called the obverse. But nope, the planned design clearly shows an image of DJT on both the obverse AND reverse, the latter of which is a clear violation.

If I had a nickel for every time a Simpsons movie was announced in the exact same year a Superman movie came out…

(And since Disney owns the Simpsons 20 years later, that meme works in more ways than one.)
