It’s a very human paradox: We want to feel connected to others through our experiences, and we also want to feel exceptional. But most things aren’t exceptional. (Unlike Sylvia Plath’s work, which absolutely is.)
Anyway, I’ll stop grousing now. 🫡

I don’t want the Sw*ft*es to come for me, but I think that sometimes people mistake relatability for profundity. Or they will profundity upon a song/book/poem/whatever precisely because they relate to it.
Again, I say this as someone who has attended a TS show and enjoys many of her albums!

Mamdani’s victory is a rebuke to the failed strategies of the Democratic party | Moira Donegan
The Democratic party appears listless and unprincipled, unwilling to fight because they do not believe in anything. Zohran Mamdani is the opposite of this

I’m very fortunate in my representation: Jamie Raskin is my Congressman, and Chris Van Hollen is one of my senators. As far as I can tell, they’re both righteous fellows with progressive visions. But they’re profoundly limited in what they can do when Capitol Hill is stuffed to the brim with losers.

Last week I was headed to an event on H Street, and my uber got stuck in traffic because a gaggle of FBI agents had swarmed a car on the road. It's hard to admit that living in DC (or just over the border, as I do) feels demoralizing. That's what they want, after all: to demoralize. But it does.
