A major FT exposé finds rampant labour & human rights abuse in global #tuna supply chains.

For us at @itfglobalunion.bsky.social, this is nothing new.

Tuna is a USD40 billion industry. We need to address the root causes of this phenomenon head-on.

It was an honour to be part of the ITUC legal team in these proceedings and to represent millions of transport workers affiliated to the @itfglobalunion.bsky.social.

And what a team we had. Such a joy to work with colleagues who are close friends and comrades.

This week we were at the International Court of Justice in The Hague for the oral hearings on the request for an advisory opinion on the Right to Strike under ILO Convention 87.

The @ituc.bsky.social participated in these proceedings representing the workers of the world.

Within minutes of the Sumud Flottilla being intercepted, Italy's largest union CGIL calls general strike.

Union states that since strike is to protect constitution & to protest serious OSH threat to crew/activists, notice requirements for essential services do NOT apply.

The #ICJ has published the schedule for the oral hearings on the advisory proceedings relating to the Right to Strike under ILO C87 from 6-8 Oct 2025.

First morning will see ILO, trade unions & employers take the floor.

Hearings will be live-streamed.

With growing consensus that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, workers of conscience are taking action to oppose ongoing international crimes. In this piece, I look at the position under international law of various strike modalities being deployed.

NBIM - a component of the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund - will not invest in #Caterpillar over the use of the company's bulldozers by Israeli authorities 'in the widespread unlawful destruction of Palestinian property'.

Capital strategies needed where govts fail.

🚨 Hugely significant advisory opinion of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights affirms State obligation to protect human rights in the face of the #climatecrisis, including the rights of working people.

Great to see @ilawnetwork.bsky.social's legal brief cited by the Court.

Many congratulations to #Colombia's workers and trade unions for securing this historic labour law reform covering everything from working time and overtime pay to platform and informal work. Special thanks to our @ilawnetwork.bsky.social's Mery Laura Perdomo Ospina for her efforts! Solidarity!

The European Council has agreed on a negotiating mandate based on what can only be described as a total gutting of the #CSDDD.

Hardly a 'simplification' process. Pretty outrageous.

The EU needs to decide whether it is serious about corporate accountability.

Numerous independent trade unionists are being held in Evin prison. This is an impossible situation now. Solidarity and strength.

Powerful statement by Iran's independent trade unions, including @itfglobalunion.bsky.social affiliate the Vahed Company Bus Workers' Union.

The very people who have faced the ruthless repression of the Iranian regime demand an end to the imperialist warmongering project.

We had an incredible Workers' Group delegation made of national centres, global unions, independent platform worker unions, and platform workers themselves. I was proud to be part of the secretariat team on behalf of
@itfglobalunion.bsky.social. We're ready to complete the job in 2026!

#ILC2025 adopted a resolution paving the way for a Convention & Recommendation on platform work.

It was a difficult & fraught negotiation, but we now have a real opportunity to upend the exploitative & extractivist model of platform capitalism.

Bring on 2026.

Some workers for Uber in #Uruguay reach a financial settlement with the company over compensation owed to them for being misclassified as independent contractors. The country's new platform work law comes into force this month.

As a longstanding member, I've always accepted that #Labour is a broad church. I've always asked comrades to stay in the party when leadership fails us. I never do party politics on here (except perhaps for elections). But it is becoming impossible to accept this rhetoric on #immigration.

We must hold our governments accountable for not taking real action to stop this heinous crime. Absolutely unbearable.

I've seen the phrase 'beyond the pale' being used to describe the situation in #Gaza. There are no words or phrases to describe the crime of starvation and the lack of courage by the international community to stand up for a fundamental tenet of international law. We all despair.

New German coalition govt to 'abolish' national HRDD law but effectively keeps it alive until EU CSDDD in force. BUT reporting duty & sanctions for non-compliance to be axed (save for 'serious human rights violations') rendering law ineffective. Clear support also for EU Omnibus.

A long-term strategic play to protect the #CSDDD & #CSRD from the worst bits of the #Omnibus?

In any event, today MEPs voted to postpone the CSRD by 2 years and the CSDDD by 1 year.

Sigh.

"When a State Party withdraws from the Rome Statute, it clouds our shared quest for justice and weakens our resolve to fight impunity". Indeed.

#Hungary's obligations - including the enforcement of warrants - CONTINUE for the period of membership despite withdrawal notice.
