As for Nhea, he will probably never admit it, because he tells himself "I'm a good nunh and I have no favorites", but due to A'tahja injecting herself into the forefront of his life, he grows more fond of her than the others. He doesn't see deeper than the persona A'tahja wants him to see.

Rukay and Nhea became more distant when Nhea became nunh, simply because their lives went in different directions. A'tahja never interacted with Rukay again simply because she didn't need him. Rukay couldn't give her the status she wanted, which is why she switched to vying for Nhea's attention.

Valjan: [Ah, well... better than not having him in my life at all.] The next day, after the incident with the treasure map, Estinien looks down at A'rukay, the purple-haired orphan boy standing next to him. Estinien: I shall leave you to recruit the others. At the Meyhane, Vishayra says to Valjan during a performance. Vishayra: So, are you gonna drop me? Valjan: Still thinking about it.

Valjan keeps looking around, eventually turning back with an embarrassed look. Valjan: Sorry. It's this way. Valjan points up at the Meghaduta. Valjan: Do you remember where you are now? It's up on the hill there. A'rukay: Ah, yes. 'Tis all coming back to me now. A'rukay looks to Valjan with a smile. Valjan smiles sheepishly. A'rukay: Thank you for the escort. Valjan: Any time. A'rukay hugs Valjan, which catches him off guard. A'rukay: 'Twas good to see you again, my friend. Valjan hugs him back. Valjan: Yeah, you too. Feel free to visit again if you're in the area... A'rukay: I will. Take care. Valjan: Take care. A'rukay walks off towards the Meghaduta. Valjan frowns softly with his arms crossed, thinking about his feelings for A'rukay. Valjan, thinking: [...I had hoped distance and time would fix this particular little issue...]

A'rukay and Valjan walk through the streets of Radz-at-Han at night time. A'rukay: Do you enjoy living in Thavnair? Valjan: We just returned from our Kugane tour a month or two ago, so I can't exactly say it's been long enough to feel like home. A'rukay perks his ears up as he notices Valjan turning off down the wrong road. Valjan: But, it is nice here, if that's a better answer to your question. A'rukay pauses. Valjan continues to walk down the wrong road. A'rukay watches him with wide eyes. A'rukay looks down the street, up the stairs, that lead to the Meghaduta. He then looks back at Valjan. Valjan keeps walking, then eventually stops and looks around.

A'rukay beams warmly at Valjan. Valjan looks up with a concerned smile. Valjan: Do you need a place to stay tonight? A'rukay, smiling: Vrtra offered me a room at the Meghaduta. Valjan: Ooh, fancy. Valjan fidgets with his hands. Valjan: Do you know the way from here? I could walk you there. A'rukay gestures forward conversationally. A'rukay, smiling: Actually, I know... A'rukay trails off after seeing Valjan's hopeful puppy dog eyes. A'rukay: ... Valjan: ... A'rukay pauses, then smiles. A'rukay: I would appreciate that very much.

Vishayra: (You didn't need to.) Vishayra leans in, covering the side of her face with her palm to conceal her lips. Valjan glances up at her with a devilish smile. Vishayra: (Don't worry. You still have your hand.) Valjan: (Same hand that might accidentally drop you next show.) Time passes. Valjan escorts A'rukay out of the Meyhane. The frame just shows their legs as they walk together. Valjan: Thanks for coming. A'rukay: Thank you for inviting me. I'm glad to have met your friends. Valjan: Yeah, they're good people. A'rukay looks over at Valjan, smiling. Valjan hesitates to respond. A'rukay: You do seem happier. Valjan: ... A'rukay: Are you? Valjan crosses his arms and looks down with a smile. A'rukay turns to face him. Valjan: Sorry. It's still weird to say. For the longest time, I resigned myself to misery for the rest of my days. Valjan looks back up to A'rukay with a warm smile. Valjan: But, yeah. I AM happy. A'rukay smiles. A'rukay: You have deserved it. Valjan looks down with a bashful smile.

Valjan clasps his hands together again and leans towards an Auri woman with purple hair. The group laughs and smiles at her. Valjan, impishly: And Vishayra. Vishayra: Hey! *group chuckles* A'rukay looks up at Valjan with a soft smile. Valjan: I would like to introduce you all to a very dear friend of mine, who came all the way from Sharlayan. A'rukay. Valjan finds a seat as his coworkers talk to A'rukay. A Midlander woman approaches A'rukay. Midlander Dancer: Sharlayan, yeah? What do you do there? A'rukay, smiling: I work at a restaurant called the Last Stand. The woman smiles at him. A Highlander man behind her also smiles and brings his hand to his chin in thought. Midlander Dancer: Sort of like here! Highlander Dancer: Maybe you should come work with us instead! A'rukay: I'm afraid I must stay with my brother in Sharlayan. He is a student. The woman places her hands on her chest. An Auri man now approaches. Midlander Dancer: Aw, that's cute. Au Ra Bartender: How'd you cross paths with Valjan? The conversation continues off-screen. The frame shows Valjan sitting in his seat, watching A'rukay with a smitten expression. A'rukay, off-screen: I'm afraid that's a tale for Valjan to tell. Vishayra, the purple haired Au Ra, leans in and whispers to Valjan. Vishayra: (He's cute.) Valjan, grinning: (Believe me, I know.) Vishayra looks over at A'rukay, still whispering to Valjan. Estinien places his hands on his hips. Estinien: Even had I attempted to escape the wyrm's eye, no doubt he would have found me regardless. A'rukay: I shall heed your guidance then. Later that night, A'rukay returns to the Meyhane. He finds a woman at the door, looking at what appears to be a tomestone. She doesn't even look up. Rhulmeira: Sorry. We're closed. A'rukay sheepishly smiles. A'rukay: Actually, I wa- Valjan, off-screen: It's alright, Rhul. Valjan strides out of the Meyhane, arms wide. Valjan: He's with me. Valjan slings his arm over A'rukay's shoulder and leads him through the doors. Valjan: Hey. Didn't think you'd come. A'rukay: But you invited me. Valjan: That I did. That I did. Valjan stands around a table with A'rukay at his side. Gathered around the table are various dancers and bartenders. With his hands clasped together, Valjan introduces A'rukay with a smile. Valjan: Esteemed colleagues... Valjan opens his hands, gesturing to the people around the table. Valjan: Friends...

"The Shroud" was the nunh before A'shtah, which is talked more about in that Rhiko/A'shtah short I keep mentioning but haven't been able to do. I should really get my ass in gear 😩
