I can't recommend @ESOldfield 's substack Fully Alive enough. Do you want soul food for (what might be) apocalyptic times? substack.com/@morefullyal...

Holding people (in public office and private sector) appropriately to account over Grenfell would swiftly help make progress towards restoring public trust in politics and public service leadership

A good day to remember that regulations are generally created to *protect*. Triumphantly setting fire to them (no pun intended) with no pause to consider unintended consequences was cavalier in the extreme. #Grenfell

This exact policy was in place in the coalition years and is a big factor contributing to the Grenfell Disaster
James Cleverly says he would bring in a "one in, two out" rule for new Government regulations, raising the possibility of regulating his way to having no regulations at all.

In short, the #art *is* the craft.

Why A.I. Isn’t Going to Make Art
To create a novel or a painting, an artist makes choices that are fundamentally alien to artificial intelligence.

Great work by Gavin on collaring this thread but good grief, what a deeply embarrassing display.

The usual false myths - “private sector being more efficient than the public”

The lack of basic knowledge - video consultation is already widely used in the NHS

The rush to AI solutionism
For anyone waiting for today's House of Commons debate on technology in public services this afternoon:

- MHCLG questions run 230-330

- At 330, there will be 3 oral ministerial statements & 1 urgent question whatson.parliament.uk/commons/2024...

- Debate will start after those, could run to 10pm
What's on - UK Parliament

"[A] belief in tech that will make lives better will guide this govt's approach" - I really hope this comes with an equal dose of skepticism and an intelligent appreciation of the aims (and methods) of the private sector 😬 h/t @radiobeartime.com
Peter Kyle (DSIT Sec of State) opens

Talks about his mum's experience of hospital scans not detecting lung cancer (www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202...), notes AI scanner that can now work in 7 seconds.

That belief in tech that will make lives better will guide this govt's approach
AI would have saved my mother from lung cancer, says Labour MP
Peter Kyle believes AI scans would have given his mother a fast-track diagnosis and better chance of survival
