Finished the first section of the first paper for #fediwrimo, #acwrimo25 , so here, have a nice #fieldphoto to celebrate.

Perhaps I should post one every day when I manage to write something? This one is for @PolarRES

Sunday started at 6.30am with some work, urgent deadlines that can't wait.

But sitting on the sofa under a blanket reading science, drinking tea, listening to sublime classical music on DR with a cat purring away next to me, turns out to be actually really nice.

I should do this more often.

I am immensely amused by husband's gleeful handing out sweets to assorted neighbourhood kids ranging from about 4 to 16 years of age.
Hard to be sure who is having a better time. And isn't that what life is all about?
Happy Halloween

The incredible tragedy for #ArcticScience of NOAA shutting down their #methane monitoring data. 5th May 2025 is the last data we'll ever get.

Do we have to see the consequences before we start believing them? Torben Røjle Christensen is talking about #arctic methane but it could be almost anything #Climate. ("Fossil fuels: the mother of all problems")

The ace Sofia Ribeiro on lessons from Holocene climate for the Arctic in the future
We also cited her paper in our recent #greenlandification article because we can learn so much about the coming Antarctic too.

Coming back to this at #nckf25 where my former boss (+IPCC lead author) Jens Hesselbjerg Christensen is looking at #eemian #sealevelrise

Not quite as catastrophic as the MWP1a but still large. I wonder if this has been updated recently at all? […]

2nd day of the #nckf25 symposium and the plenary is all about the #sealevelrise.
This is the downstream part of our job as glaciologists and it's important to understand how the projections will, can and should be used...

🚨 New preprint out🚨 now, why has Antarctica stopped (net) losing mass?
We explore how declining sea ice but mostly increasingly heavy and frequent atmospheric rivers have actually led to a small increase in the mass of #antarctica, in spite of increased […]

This plot on wikipedia was made by @RARohde based on data published in late 90s and early 00s. Wondering if this has been updated or if there is new understanding on any of these palaeo records?

Maybe @DrEvanGowan has thoughts? Anyone else?

I thought at first this was a variation on the famous duck/rabbit illusion as whale/penguin.

Some fantastic suggestions in the replies to this cry for help regarding our #appleglut.

Have picked around 120kg of apples from a single tree (variety is Pigeon - smallish, red, good keepers, often used at Christmas in Denmark), but no way we'll manage to eat them all before they go bad. Your suggestions for recipes with apples?

One of the big successes we had with @OceanIceEU was bringing in our friends at NASC in #Ukraine. Their deployment of floats in Bransfield strait closed one of our big gaps and now we're seeing the data... It's pretty interesting!

Kicking off the @OceanIceEU annual meeting with some insitu observations with #ECR Shenjie Zhou.

Ever heard of #antarcticainsync? It's a very cool initiative to better understand the Southern Ocean and it's icy continent..

Kicking off the second webinar now..

An outstanding edition of @thecontinent with an incredibly moving piece on #Gaza, reportage from # Sudan on the landslide that buried a thousand people (did you hear about it?) and your weekly does of hope on how WHO is quietly eradicating river blindness
An essential part of your media diet.
