2) The job talk is not the only determinant of success in a job interview. I have seen people give abysmal job talks and still get hired. So do your best, but realize that if it goes sideways that's not necessarily the end.

1) One of the worst things you can do in a job talk is say "now I'm going to switch gears" in the middle. The talk should have a clear story arc, and if you have to "switch gears" it either means you haven't thought through the story arc well enough, or haven't edited well enough.
