👻 New essay is live: Haunting Contradictions

Why I love horror even though I hate being scared — and why dread lingers long after a jump scare fades.

💀 What's your favorite dread-inducing scene in film or print?

Haunting Contradictions
Being scared is a natural part of life. But it’s never been my favorite part. Which may sound odd considering my chosen form of storytelling. But like the subject matter itself, I’m full of contrad…

I've been waiting a long time for this #SpiderMan run to be collected. @jmdematteis.bsky.social and Sal Buscema crafted THE definitive Spider-Man for 9-year-old me. Honestly, it's still that for 43-year-old me.

The photographer snapped the pic as my wife and I were making our way to the steps. Was such a great turnout.

Finished Superman and Lois on Max. This show was like a warm hug to Superman fans. It got what makes all these characters so great and why they've endured for so long. I'm looking forward to the new movie, but I'm going to miss this show so much.

Always nice to have some reading time during the holidays. Catching up on Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man and it is really good. Also started Absolute Batman and am loving it so far.

Here's how I know I'm old: every holiday season, all I really want is a week off from literally everything to catch up on the stuff I already have. My movie, TV show, comics and video game backlog is unwieldy.

I know it's the Giants, but seeing the Falcons put on this kind of show warms my cynical, icy heart. #RiseUp

It’s almost 2025. Work out the fucking rights and get Ed on some streaming service and a physical release already, fuck! I’ll give them 10 dollars.

Well, I waited and I saw. And a glorious skull dragging it was.
I have zero love for Ohio State, but anytime Tennessee gets a good skull dragging I'm here for it.

Clemson could have won that game. Texas gave them plenty of chances but bad coaching decisions cost them. For Texas, it's a pretty smooth road to the semis. They will almost certainly play Oregon there.

And that momentum gets stuffed as quickly as it got going. That timeout from Dabo took the wind out of their sails.
Slow start for Clemson but they've grabbed the momentum. Texas defense apparently likes to give them gifts, too.

Blocking assholes is definitely preferable to arguing with them. Shouldn't even waste time on randos whose whole existence is trolling strangers.

So this first round of the playoffs has been ... something. Could it be that SMU and Indiana had the benefit of much easier schedules? Here they both are getting skull-drug by actual top tier teams. But, sure, Bama didn't "deserve" to be there.

Reminder Superman is not a power fantasy, he's an altruism fantasy.

The idea of someone with godlike powers using them solely for good (with an antagonist who is a billionaire, who by definition do the opposite) was dreamt up by Jewish kids in the 30s and its just as if not more relevant now.

I don’t want the #Superman trailer to distract completely from today’s episode of #CreatureCommandos on Max, my favorite episode yet.

Watching my Fantasy team deteriorating into mediocrity and ultimately into a first round elimination after being at the top of the league for weeks.

There's a lot happening in that #Superman trailer, but without giving away too much, which I appreciate. Feels like a marrying of tones but for sure more Silver Age than the previous take. I like where it seems to be going. Krypto was the MVP of this teaser for me.
