The Sound

Finally got over my writer's block and finished this!

The Sound In darker days of mind, when midnight stood, A subtle spell overtook common sense. When candles faded to black falsehood, All that remained was a screaming suspense. In shining nights of heart, in sun's defense, A striking wish banished the midnight's spell. A cry for help left ignored without pretense Will turn to screams that will break from this cell. A soul left alone within its own hell Is a soul that finds it's strength will abound. So listen to it from within it's shell Listen to me as my heart becomes sound. A soul left alone can survive their hell. A soul that learns of their worth will astound Those who kept them in their stifling shell, Listen to me as my heart becomes sound. For this heart has had enough of your hate, So hear me as I throw open the gate

Blood On Our Flags Sorting through these forgotten memories Reaching out to myself to bring her back. I'll take up in this place, dusted by breeze, A faded, old canvas painted in black. I look long over this year's old attack, The paint that covered up so many shades Far too many to count and to bring back But I'll still try to restore their cascades. I took back and covered my past charades And brought color back those winters. I cast away a darkness that pervades A life within those lengthening summers. I painted my canvas in soft colors, But now you paint wild dread on my skin. I won't be drawn on by wrathful others. I washed my hands and I refuse your sin. I spent so long learning to find my kin, Hearing without listening to their song. That harmonious rise and falling din Reminding my heart of what's right and wrong. This time painting my canvas made me strong. And through my weakness, I found a great force. By painting this canvas, burning in me all along, I found a color like burning concourse. Until the blood on our flags is undone, This art will call forth to a dawning sun.

I'll Hold On

I'll Hold On I do not know what future lies ahead, A deeping cloud full of hate fills my sight. The stretching path beneath my feet has fled To a darking distance, a lonely plight. I do not know what toils sickened with blight Will come for us, haunting in hopeless days. The skies descend under ruinous might To curse those below, the unwilling strays. I do not know what is left in this blaze. I do not know what is left to believe. But I know this, as to the skies we gaze, Soon the stars will shine in the sky we cleave. I do not know if we've reached the end of this rope, But I know that every bit of hope brings us hope.

So It May Be

If you have to turn your smile into gritting teeth and steel your heart in determination, then do it because, when you reach the top, you'll finally have the chance to breathe, smile, laugh, and look to the painted sky again.

So It May Be So it may be - that engines churn and moan; That the powers that be will hurt and scream. They choose to beat and kick and curse and stone Diminished souls below them, so they deem. So it may be - that pain will be your theme; That life be rife with scorn and broken dreams. You can choose the beating of their regime, A choice that leads to serve their hateful schemes. Or, choose to break them, the loathsome machine. Even from your knees, you can still be brave So spit and bite and claw to make a scene, A new end to your saga, you'll engrave... So it may be - those who hate, will falter Before rightful rage and vengeful altar.

The Charcoal Crown

Inspired by one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen, wildflowers reclaiming a burnt forest, this is probably my favorite poem I've ever written. Oftentimes, in the shadows of destruction, hope will find a way to survive and grow

Whispers of Aspen drifting in the wind. Dancing autumn light graces through the trees. Subtly, the forest sways ever undinned, By a lone figure untouched by the breeze. Solemn stillness breaks through the golden leaves. In a ring of silence, no sound invades. No heart beats in her chest that she believes. No hope echos in her mind that cascades. Upon her downturned head rests burnt charades: A Charcoal Crown she once wore with all pride. Years had past since it last cast gentle shade. Now it casts streaks of ash she cannot hide. Curls, falling down her neck, she once denied. Her figure sunken into the green field. Eyes long shut, she cannot see what betide. The meadow lush with wildflowers she healed. The many lost tears she shed here revealed The vibrant blooms that grew from fallen tears. Though she cannot see the petals they yield, So softly they flutter despite her fears. A gentle pine breeze disturbs the frontiers, Dusting the long laid ashes from her crown, Calling her to open eyes closed for years, And see the new winter dawn, ne'er looking down. Her eyes are colored blue by the pale winter sky, From the cracks of the crown, flowers grow to defy.

A poem about finding a light when it seems there is no hope. Everyone is a candle and, when we shine together, we can light the darkness and find our way.

After The Gloam The feel of these sheets, where those tears were shed, Where many a night was spent in crisis... With music while silent prayers were said, Those tears and restless nights without witness. Edge of this knife that drops of blood were bled In darkness alone and burning malice, When screaming silence and horror have wed, Those scars will not heal below the surface. But in the darkness that we grew to dread, Cold and Empty for us will not dismiss. It wraps around and comforts us instead Of the illusion of ignorant bliss. And in this peaceful place, our wayward home, All lights become beacons after the gloam.

Mosaic Hot, the wind blows on her burning skin. Mind alone, abandoned by the heart, Feeling so lost, looking for her kin The gilded sun seeks to light the art. Endless summer days fight from the start. The light filters through shattered stained glass, Painted mosaics ne'er to depart The deepened cracks in her that trespass. Flows of scattered color in her pass, From drops of water on the hot sand, To the creek that rolls through untouched grass, Here amid aspen forest heartland. So gentle now, the sun's careful hand. It fills her eyes and valleys within, Mending the breaks so she may now stand To see Summer part and Fall begin. Now comes the comforting night, With a calm wind and star light.

Reminder What do you do with all your endless pain? Do you hold it deep in your heart of hearts? Or do you sow it in your field of grain? Perhaps you shall just release it in parts. When splinters of starlight shine on the arts, The suffering of our lives we choose to paint, When the cold night calls and the sun departs, What will we do now when forced to acquaint? When we are bound here by our own restraint Who then, will guide us to the final choice? When we must become our very own saint, Then how will we ever find our own voice? I will hold my pain tightly in my hand, Until it burns hotly into a brand.

Chapters I search through the nameless host, My mind racing as my last chapter flutters past. I search for a familiar face, One full of love; one full of grace. I race through the swarm as the pages flick by, Begging to see them before I die. I am left alone with the last page, torn away and cast aside, The book already forgotten in the receding tide. I force myself to read without the sun, wishing I could say what must be said; do what must be done. As the last words fade into my mind, I fall to my knees and drift away. With each tear, I leave it all behind. Every graying moment; every faded memory, paling as I find the way. In the distance, a beaten path greets me, Countless footsteps of years past as far as I can see. As my soul is healed in the starlight, I walk on, at last lead beside the still waters that run ever deep.

Underneath Just below the stillness learned Are feelings I can't ignore. But... When are these emotions earned? This anger, against I swore. Deserved peace that I wore Threatened by forgotten rage. Hate and fury I abhor But... I can't turn this fucking page. In meditation, in cage I will not be kept within But... In meditation I stage The pain I accept as twin. Deep inside, I find festering anger Deep inside, I will try to embrace her...

The Canvas

This poem describes the destructive nature of depression and the regrets one faces. But, more importantly, it describes the choice to set down your mistakes and take the time to heal.

A poem by Lyn, The Canvas Gentle strokes on the canvas; Red and blue, yellow and green. A fresh brush, creating mass... What should have been a great scene. A streak of black in wet sheen Cuts across vibrant color. My brush is a stained machine, Moving itself in squalor. Abandoning my blunder, I now gaze at what I've made Looking on now in horror As the brush works it's crusade. Long this canvas will sit alone and forgotten in black, 'Til the day I paint it over, to get those colors back.
