Bonus when said friends arrive bearing beautiful and resonant gifts. 🙏

Friends who stop by to pick flower and food friends to take to and nourish friends returning home from hospital is the kind of community we want to be part of. ❤️

“These days, with the global markets in disarray and the future of the places we ride in peril, we should probably spend less time thinking about the specifics of optimizing our rides or whether we have the perfect bike to ride a specific trail, and just go see what we can do with what we have.”

There are places with which we can build relationships upon only a single visit. People with whom the ties that bind still thrive despite the better - though less good for the absences - part of a lifetime apart.

… I feel disappointed, unsettled and reflective about the state of thinking, creativity and discourse, along multiple contours.

So here are some photos taken this morning of flowers my wife and I have cultivated and cared for.

There are few things better than being nearby withnessing people you love in the places, pursuits and experiences that fill them up.

Jennie, this morning, prepping a few flowers in our backyard urban farm to share with the community before heading off to work at the actual farm.

Reflections from this morning’s garden walk …

Of course the Penhill Watermelon in the first image stops you in your tracks on the morning garden walk, but it’s fun to juxtapose the far less brash strawflowers (last image) that are now emerging one row over … [1/2]

Sublime Sunday blooms … and an intention: Carry the disposition on display here through the upcoming week.

And this made my day.

K., I’m out. ✌️🤗

Oh, before disappearing again, speaking of beautiful, caring people, a friend installed a “wind phone” (look it up) by the ocean here. It’s wonderful. As are the remarks and reflections folks are leaving in the notebook she left along with it.

Thinks: Perhaps it’s time to pivot to a full time focus on flowers.

Sending out a big ol’ virtual hug to all you beautiful, caring people.

Our background - which really means Jennie’s background - is in food farming, so the addition of growing - and selling, to spread their beauty & joy, and support our little enterprise - flowers is very much a work in progress.

Current state. #WFA Friday. (Pro tip: Try to add a little beauty to your anywhere - thank you to my wonderful partner and flower (etc.) grower for adding to mine this morning.)

I’ve been walking the yard every morning this spring, posting photos on IG of flowers as they emerge…nothing in particular prompted it, though on reflection it feels like a bit of a “proof of life (& light & beauty)” exercise amidst times that feel…otherwise. Anyway, here too today, this morning… ❤️

Happy belated BC Trails Day (yesterday), friends.

No context rose from this morning’s sun light seeking wander, because, I dunno, I sense we could all use more of these things in our lives and the regifting feels right.

Spent the day amidst what felt like a 10/10 version of collective public impact: A group of BC Wildfire sawyers training BC Parks rangers and Guardians from 6 nations on saw techniques, in service of trail clearing and wildfire mitigstion. 1/2

Four years into working at BC Parks, and around 44 years since imaging being a Park Ranger would be a dream job, I’m in Manning Park on a two week Ranger Training intensive. Thank the maker for nearby nature to decompress following these immersive days.
