At the UNGA's plenary debate on African development, Portugal made 3 points:
- Africa needs greater voice at UNSC and RES 2719 must be implemented;
- Africa can lead a sustainable industrial revolution;
- development is not possible without implementation of Sevilla Commitment & reforming finance.

At #UNGA79, Portugal reiterated its call for international unity in defending Ukraine territorial integrity and working for a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace, in line with the UN Charter principles and #InternationalLaw.

🚨Good news for the Ocean 🌊 agenda

As we mark the International Day of #Multilateralism and #Diplomacy for Peace, Portugal recommits to the principles of resolving disputes among countries by using multilateral decision making and diplomacy, the same principles we've abided since our admission to the UN 70 years ago.

Youth efforts in international peace and security was the focus of today’s discussion hosted by Portugal where we addressed youth unavoidable participation in conflict prevention and how States can support such key efforts, also with participation of Deputy Minister for Equality.

At preparatory consultations convened by France and Saudi Arabia on the June High-level Int’l Conference for the implementation of the Two-State Solution, Portugal reiterated its support:

📌 to the Two-State Solution which will ensure a lasting peace;

📌to the Aran Plan on reconstruction of #Gaza;

Portugal supports South Africa’s #G20 priorities. At #UNGA, we reaffirmed our commitment to multilateralism, including in development and climate finance, social protection and sustainable oceans and maritime security. Portugal remains a steadfast partner for global cooperation.

With FfD4 inter-sessionals beginning yesterday, Portugal, co-chairing with Burundi, reiterates support to Co-Facilitators Mexico, Nepal, Norway and Zambia and calls on MS to engage constructively and not loose sight of bigger picture - ensuring deliverables for transformative change in Seville.

At #CSW69 General Debate Portugal underlined national strategies to fight backlash by pushing forward on #genderequality and fighting stereotypes and structural challenges.

Portugal joined today the large majority of UN Member States in a strong call for peace, supporting the #UNGA Resolution for comprehensive, just and lasting peace in #Ukraine in line with UN Charter and international law.

At today’s discussion on SG priorities for 2025, Portugal reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism, including financing for development, peacebuilding, international law, human rights, climate, digital and ocean action. For now, may a ceasefire in Gaza bring hope for lasting peace in the region.

Throughout UNGA79, CPLP delivered 10 statements in Portuguese on topics such as human rights, culture, and oceans, showcasing the power of multilingualism at the UN. Portugal calls for co-sponsorship of the UN-CPLP Resolution to strengthen cooperation and trust in multilateralism.

On this day in 1955, Portugal was admitted to the United Nations, marking a significant step in its diplomatic presence in the multilateral system.
