At the GA's debate on the International Atomic Energy Agency, Portugal - having recently been elected to the IAEA's Board of Governors - expressed strong support to the Agency's work on nuclear security & safety, on peaceful uses of nuclear technology & on technical cooperation.

Portugal reaffirmed today its commitment to more transparent and effective working methods in the Security Council, including on the modalities for the next SG selection and closer cooperation with the GA and PBC. Stronger methods mean stronger multilateralism.

Portugal will keep advocating for a UN where power is exercised responsibly. A stronger General Assembly, enhancing accountability mechanisms, and a transparent Secretary-General selection process are key to restoring trust in multilateralism.

The Third Committee adopted today the Resolution on "Policies and Programmes involving Youth", presented by #CaboVerde,
#Kazakhstan and Portugal.
Despite being called to a vote, 169 Member States supported the Resolution, which seeks to advance #Youth agenda.

At Security Council debate on small arms, Portugal stressed 3 points:

- proliferation of these weapons (also due to 3D printing) remains a threat, incl in Sahel or Haiti

- the UN already has means (ATT, UNSCAR) to address this challenge

- further cooperation between States is needed

The Portuguese Mission hosted the GoF of DRR meeting with SR of UNSG for DRR Mr Kamal Kishore. It provided Ambassadors with the opportunity to engage in a dialogue on UNDRR’s Strategic Framework 2026-2030. Ambassador Rui Vinhas shared Portuguese concrete experiences and actions in this framework.

At the UNGA's plenary debate on African development, Portugal made 3 points:
- Africa needs greater voice at UNSC and RES 2719 must be implemented;
- Africa can lead a sustainable industrial revolution;
- development is not possible without implementation of Sevilla Commitment & reforming finance.
