Not retro, but Z80 is the best of all time.
Hmm, scrounging parts from some medical machines that use 5 phase motors. Interesting mystery, they only use low side drivers for 5 totem poles... do they just drive the high side FETs 15V over the high power rail?

Morning random image!

oh, heh, hmm ok. sure

arg, I still got this virus or whatever. grrr.

oh well, maybe more electronics today.

hey!
Lets try this...
Rues Nov 2025 Transistor Challenge!

See if you can make the most minimal circuit in the middle that performs the function!

Here, its an up/down binary counter.
I have an idea how to do it that I will attempt, do you have an idea? reply with it!

later I gave this circuit a try, its from
@killnotsees on twitter. This circuit does binary-to-1-of-4 decoding, with 3 transistors.
Thats my kinda circuit! ;]

Interesting day, I woke up really ill, booked off sick for work and chewed into some electronics a bit. This is a light sequencer for a post about turning signal lights that keeps coming up in my feeds.

If I could make LVDC sensors out of pipe it would be awesome the slop in the pipe cancels itself out. But when I tried I could not get the capacitance up enough for a good signal, not even at 20MHz. I have been pondering an optical unit with a gate...

From this year, auto power failover.
I use this for when I have to replace my UPS (but keep my computer running)

ok, I think I made this simple enough that even if I was asleep I could build it right.

its a wiring harness for a system to alternate my two septic system pumps.

I was working on a design for a linear position sensor yesterday, I was hoping this circuit would work out well, but it wasn't being linear with the variable inductor I made.

Who said DIY CCD?
With microcontrollers, it should be easy now.

a staircase generator that would be suitable for that graph circuit I was pondering. I don't need the rest or the input driver, so that sort reduces it to just the 1 transistor.

if I wanted to make a really "high resolution" led strip, how close could I expect a PCBA to pack 0402 (imperial) LEDs?

do you think anyone could pull off 256/20cm?
November 22, 2025 at 7:21 AM
no Rue, you cant outpost the nanoraptor.
November 22, 2025 at 7:07 AM
I cant get this out of the back of my mind, the idea is that the 4017 strobes the leds, and the comparator triggers the display during the correct values. But I want dot mode. (this is bar mode)
I suppose I could also use a staircase generator, might sync better.

I have a thing for blinking clear LEDs tho...

A 2->4 decoder using open collector inverters. :]
There was some inspiration for the sillyness from twitter.

I was able to pour off a little more water today, they wild clay is on its way.
I dont have any sun to put it in... so the next steps might be hard, but how much water do I want to take it down to? like, I dont have to dry it completely out...
