Nonprofit grocery stores in particular are such a silly thing to shit talk. They'd be a fairly cheap, high-impact, trust-building, low(ish) stakes way to show that the city can provide real value to residents. There are already city-run markets that are cheap and cool, it's an idea worth exploring!
I vaguely remember candidate Adams proposing a network of community vegetable gardens as a way of promoting healthy eating, something many at the time said couldn't scale. Few writers at the Atlantic said that wasn't serious in the way they are critiquing Mamdani's plan for municipal grocery stores.
