I was there in March.
A square by the River in Lisbon. The arches in the Montasario (sp?). A gorgeous graffiti/mixed medium fox on the side of a building in Lisbon. Taken from a moving car, so not great. But evocative. An old church/rectory on a hill. A funicular barely visible on the right. Anyway, this was the view from my hotel balcony. Greenery, a graffiti-covered path wending through it. Steep hillsides.

Recently climbed a hill to visit our mutual friend.

Patrick & Mary O’Brian’s grave. Gray slate. Needed fresh flowers, but there was a succulent to stand in. I may have left a note. The O’Brian grave in the New Cemetery above Collioure. If you ever go looking for it, the Famille Pous is a very helpful reference point.

I love everything Tove wrote (I was lucky enough to discover Moominvalley when I was quite young; I still laugh at Little My and cry at the Gronk [well, cry for the small squirrel — the Gronk is still pretty scary]). Found this while out and about in London. My goodness. So wise and wonderful.
The Summer Book, by Tove Jansson. Cover shows a small, wild island, home to rocks and wind-bent trees. Cerulean sky above. Wispy summertime clouds above the horizon. The tiny Finnish island is surrounded by a cobalt blue sea.
