Dragonscarred is such a cool feat, I just wish that the ability scores for the background/feat combo made worked together at all. DnD is not a game built for you to have high scores in several abilities.

The current lack of background options is more of an issue than the way that backgrounds work. As we get more options, the restriction will stop being frustrating and it will become more interesting.

Custom backgrounds in the 2024 DnD rules offer much more flexibility and power than written backgrounds, but I don’t think we’re intended to always use them in place of a written backgrounds.

DnDbeyond doesn’t do a la carte purchases for dnd content anymore. They stopped at the beginning of the 2024 rules release, and I don’t expect it to change because doing so would require tech improvements which I don’t think they’re willing to make.
