"Constitutional crisis does not even begin to capture the radicalism of what is unfolding in the federal bureaucracy and of what Congress’s decision not to act may liquidate in terms of constitutional meaning."

Trump's Greenland obsession is a very concrete example of why the Mercator projection is bad.

Nearly twenty years on, S3 remains one of the most useful (and used) cloud provider primitives. This is a cute log implementation that is so simple and only possible because object storage is so good these days!

Published a new blog post: Building a Distributed Log Using S3 (Under 150 Lines of Go)

The log is a powerful storage abstraction. Using a log, you can build a database, message queue, or event streaming system. S3 makes it all better and easier!

Interested to see what the aforementioned “reasonable steps” will looks like re: enforcement. It’s supposed to be 13 and up in the US but last I checked it’s a checkbox on signup.
Breaking News: Australia has passed a sweeping ban on social media for children under 16, one of the world’s most comprehensive measures aimed at safeguarding young people from potential hazards online. nyti.ms/3VbiGzc

The law sets a minimum age for users of platforms like TikTok, Instagram and X. How the restriction will be enforced online remains an open question.

New: A conceptual model of how ATProto works, for ActivityPub people

I wrote about how to think about how ATProto works, how it differs from ActivityPub, and what decentralisation and federation even mean anymore

And I'm ready for what's next.
Today is my last day at a company I've been with for eleven years and two months—a tenure I'm unlikely to exceed somewhere else. Through many job changes, reorgs, acquisitions, a country move, and several corporate owners, it's been a wild ride. I'm proud of the work I've done here.
