In any case, it's good to know where people stand on the position of Taiwan. From a rights-based perspective, you cannot deny people's basic rights to self-determination, especially not in the face of an entity (CCP) that exists by denying citizens to vote for their legitimacy.

A quick note that while Taiwan faces transboundary political persecution, it also needs to reevaluate its ideological positions, to ensure that it does not undermine its standing among other countries, and to gain support from as many countries. 8/

But non-Western countries should realize that CCP's attempts at reshaping the world can threaten the safety of their own diplomats & citizens, if the counterbalance from aligned-democracies is weakened, and countries should evaluate whether their prostration to CCP is prudent. 7/

There is still the concern from countries aligned to China or which do not want to offend China, such as my prime minister stating his opposition to Taiwan's independence, but this will only narrow the rules-based order which they want to operate in. 6/

Fortunately, European democracies finally take seriously CCP's threats & are partnering Taiwan to counter CCP's threats, such as Taiwan's VP Hsiao Bi-khim's speech in Brussels:

And Puma Shen's Berlin parliamentary hearing:

Moreover, in the last year, the number of Taiwanese detained by CCP for legal affairs has tripled to close to 200, including ordinary citizens--which again signifies the growing scale of CCP's transboundary political persecution against Taiwanese. 4/

... aligned to it, to detain figures the CCP designates as targets, but the threat against Puma Shen raises the bar, as CCP now threatens to use Interpol as a tool to do so--an irony since CCP considers Taiwan to be part of it, but has no legal ability to detain Puma. 3/

... and China/CCP's threats of Puma Shen follows a pattern of CCP's aggression towards political figures in other countries, such as the false imprisonment of Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig, etc. CCP has been trying to reshape the world order, by pressurizing countries ... 2/

It's easy to support another power in the hope that your own Western government will be weakened enough to do your bidding. In reality, the CCP is not fighting to just weaken your government, it's seeking to replace your world order, and using you as a pawn. 23/

Thinking about China as a faraway issue makes it less threatening, but it's different when you start imagining what it'd be like if the CCP is actually your government, with no voting, and where free speech and protests can lead to persecution and disappearances. 22/

The reality is if another major power wins, it will try to reshape the world in its own image, as did the Brits did in the 1800s, and as US tries to bring others into its influence. And if CCP gets to reshape the world if it wins, I can only say, becareful what you wish for. 21/

If we want to make our countries stronger, find more radical ways to change government into one that represents us and brings about lesser economic insecurities. And if democracies are genuinely worried, they should implement policies seriously to reduce economic anxieties. 20/

Taiwan is not a pawn to your government, nor for you. If you are unhappy with your government, the CCP is not the answer. If the CCP succeeds in conquering other countries, together with Russia, the West has all to lose when the CCP dilutes your economic power. 19/

I'm not sure if individuals who are angry with their own Western governments and thus support the CCP, understand how it's all going to play out in the long run. Maybe living in the West has blinded people to the realities outside of their own countries. 18/
