I very much doubt it was a one-off.
The truly condemning part is that they weren't originally even investigating Homan. He just sorta showed up as part of a separate investigation and only became involved because of his open willingness to accept the bribe. That's not a first-timer's behavior.

I haven't heard that he is saying anything at all, which, if he has even a moderately competent lawyer, is exactly what he should do, particularly given that the prosecution has already tipped its hand about seeking a death sentence.
