Personally, I take a more middling approach: I take my role as an educator seriously, but I'm honest with myself about what I can realistically educate people on. Being a Republican means demolishing the planet and still expecting to get invited to dinner. They don’t believe in cutting people off socially over politics—they believe in *murdering* people over politics. Keeping normal relationships with whoever’s left is how they tell themselves they’re ok.
