Archaeologist, museum person, and photographer - fondness for historical archaeology, early Nova Scotia, gender, burying grounds, death and commemoration (and things Pictish too). All views my own.
Heading to London in late November and hope to visit another Magnificent Seven cemetery (had a lovely meander around Highgate last visit). Historic cemetery folks - which one(s) should I choose? Right now, Brompton and Abney Park are top of mind @graveyardarch.bsky.social @cemeteryclub.bsky.social

"Hold up the train. Ammunition ship afire in harbour making for Pier 6 and will explode. Guess this will be my last message. Good-bye boys."

Vincent Coleman saved 300 lives with a telegram just before the Halifax Explosion.

Hearing the news of Colin Renfrew's passing. I was fortunate to hear him speak at a conference in Edinburgh some years ago (and of course have a copy of Renfrew and Bahn on the bookshelf).
I’m very sad to hear that Colin Renfrew, a giant in the field of Prehistoric Archaeology, has joined the realm of the ancients. An academic archaeologist with one foot firmly in the trench, he combined theory & fieldwork with flair - and had a knack for asking the right questions. His work lives on

Wandered over here from the former bird app. Happy to see many familiar faces (and more every time I check).
