Have you seen our photographer working to catalogue each of the roughly 1200 stones (front and back) in the Old Burying Ground? Don't worry, he's being very mindful of the stones as he works in some of the densely packed areas of the site.

Update to our open hours - Until the end of May, the Old Burying Ground will be open by chance only. We hope to resume daily openings June 1st for the summer season.

The Old Burying Ground is hiring summer guides! Our guides greet visitors, offer site tours, engage in research, and do some light maintenance work (clipping grass near the stones to keep them visible).

A lcast iron marker from St Anselm’s in West Chezzetcook. There is a place for a name plate that appears long lost. Across the bottom it reads “WH Faulkner RD 1884,.” Read more about Faulkner's foundry in Moncton here:

Halifax’s Old Burying Ground was fictionalized as Kingsport’s Old St John’s Cemetery in Anne Of The Island by Lucy Maud Montgomery. She lived in Halifax 1895-6. Then it was known as St Paul’s Cemetery

The grave of Cristiana Rudolph (1799) in @buryingground caught my eye because of the delightful carving of a bird. The B&W pics are from the Farber Gravestone Collection. They were taken in the 1970s. Fascinating to see how it has changed in 50 years
