Great writeup on "The Three Kinds of Organizational Power" shared by Anja Kunkel (thanks) as we discussed Decision KP Maps. jacobian.org/2021/mar/15/... Reminded me of Anthony Marter's ProductTank Auckland panel. We share so much across roles - wonder if we collaborate efficiently enough?

Discovering Clarity Through Personal Practice a post describing my experience doing impact mapping solo

key takeaways: iteration over days FTW and focusing on goals and personas is great

Have you tried impact mapping?

This is why we say "it depends" so much... more great takeaways from the experience of a company using the Architecture Advice Process with ADRs and AAF

Yesterday's event @virtualddd.com presented by Krisztina Hirth was so impact-full ☺️
she said something like:
"If you are not convinced (of the impact), you will deliver terrible work"

Yesterday at Auckland @dataengbytes.bsky.social I enjoyed Kim's take on her use of agentic ai: great at scafolding the initial project and telling her "You're right"

Before at Web Directions code leaders, we've got a great overview of the possible future of the software development life cycle by Sarah Taraporewalla.
She went over the recent past and current state and imagined what things could be.
I massively enjoyed the subsequent panel

I thoroughly enjoyed Prakriti Mateti talk about her team and her journey doing a re-write of a system. I keep thinking about is how important was the messaging and storytelling both internally and externally during the re-write.
In the picture, when to rewrite ( totally watch it if you can)

At Web Directions Code Leaders, I just saw Maia Miller do a talk about Accessibility, with a big A. She walked us through accessible 😅 some of these changes are and how, as people in leadership, we can power up our teams to have more accessible systems.

Great to have working definitions for these concepts: Influence and Affability. Also helps understand how power flows

Today is Cloud Native Summit in Auckland
I've already learned a bunch of stuff and met some amazing people at the hallway track after the workshop
Say hi if you are there

I'm preparing some slides for the workshop on Tuesday and I think this quote from @cyetain.com caries the message on systems of software an people so well
Thanks @chrissimon.au for pointing me to it!

People building a system need to share a lot of knowledge. They need to know what to build today, and imagine the near future. How can you improve that practise? I'm sharing my take on my Cloud Native Summit keynote on 29th April in Auckland www.cloudnativesummit.co/The-delibera...

I loved it so much I screenshot-ed it also the visuals drive it home!!!

read top -> right and then left
It seems like we have been chunking cognitive load with a lot of other things that are not. Organisational issues get assigned to (the individuals) masked as attentional problems (I see the link with Team topologies here)
April 15, 2025 at 10:11 PM
Learning to understand our vast array of objects, artefacts is something we cope with from an early age. At this point Cat also mentioned that as a programmer you do many multiple cognitive as part of the jobs, tasks that are more than attention control, memory, etc #virtualDDD #drCatHicks
